What You Can Expect

Wild Wicklow Tour including Glendalough from Dublin

The Wild Wicklow Tour including Glendalough

In the morning, meet your guide and coach at one of the central Dublin pickup locations. Grab a comfortable seat and enjoy the drive out of the city, passing sites not commonly seen by tourists such as the exclusive suburbs of Dalkey and Killiney, home to local celebrities like U2's Bono, Enya and film director Neil Jordan. Then cut away form the city and take in rocky coastal scenery as you head into the Wicklow Mountains.

Your first stop brings you to Avoca Handweavers, the oldest wool mill in Ireland. Enjoy a dose of traditional Irish culture, shop for fine handmade goods and have a rich cup of tea (own expense). Then re-board the coach and head Wicklow Mountains National Park. View the park’s upper slopes, blanketed in heath and bog, before dipping down into the glacial valley of Glendalough.

Throughout history, visitors have come to ‘the valley of the two lakes’  for its mystical history, archaeology and unique wildlife. The monastic city of Glendalough, found in the 6th century by St. Kevin, was once an active locale featuring areas for manuscript writing and copying, an infirmary, guest houses, and a monastery. Now it offers guests a peek into Ireland’s rich cultural history. Enjoy a guided tour of the many sites including the Round Tower, and have some free time to explore on your own.

Afterward, your group will visit a traditional Irish pub for lunch (own expense). Relax, savor Irish home-cooking and sip on at a creamy Guinness before heading to your final stop on the tour: Sally’s Gap. A landmark stop on the route back to Dublin, this mountain pass served as a filming location for Braveheart, the tributary film about Scottish hero William Wallace.

Your 8.5-hour tour drops off at Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel or Trinity College in the evening.

What a fantastic day!! Our tour guide, John, was knowledgeable, funny and charming. He made sure everyone got included in photos. The Wicklow mountains are breathtaking and the final stop Glendalough gave us the opportunity for a lovely long walk in beautiful surroundings. When I visit Dublin again I will definitely book this tour.

Great one day tour out of Dublin. The driver, Dave, conducted a fact quiz throughout the tour that helped me pay more attention and retain more information than I would have otherwise remembered. If one of those topics comes up when I am playing a trivia game some time in the future, I am sure I will thank Dave for making me look good!

This tour was fantastic! John, our tour guide, was great! He was authentically passionate about showing his country to everyone, and he made sure each individual person had a great time! And he has a great singing voice! : We stopped at all of the key spots and had plenty of time to get pictures at all of them. This would have been way too difficult for our group to navigate on our own via car, so this tour was absolutely perfect because we could sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful views! Thanks, John!

This was a highlight four visit to Dublin. Our guide Niall was excellent. He was personable and knowledgable. He stopped enough for us to be comfortable, but kept on schedule. The tour includes a coffee/shopping break, a stop for lunch, and stops for scenery as well as Glendalough, the ruins of an ancient monastery.
I would highly recommend this tour.
