Best Wild Wicklow Tour including Glendalough from Dublin

The Wild Wicklow Tour including Glendalough

The beautiful coastal drive from Dublin to Glendalough takes you past Dun Laoghaire Harbor, Dalkey and Killiney. These exclusive suburbs on the out reaches of Dublin are home to Ireland's rich and famous including U2's Bono, Enya and film director Neil Jordan. Then, driving through the Wicklow Mountains, you'll soon understand why this area is known as 'the Garden of Ireland’.

You'll continue on to the green mountains of Wicklow County, where you'll stop for morning tea (additional cost) at Avoca Handweavers. The oldest wool mill in Ireland, Avoca Handweavers is a great place to shop for high-quality Irish crafts.

The next stop on your Wicklow tour in Glendalough, in Wicklow Mountains National Park. Glendalough is renowned for its natural beauty and history, and is one of the most visited places in Ireland.

At Glendalough, your guide will walk with you through the 6th-century monastic settlement. You'll learn about St Kevin, the founder of the ancient monastery, and hear stories relating to the ruins scattered about the site, including the famous Round Tower. There will also be time for a leisurely stroll through the woods to Upper Lake.

Leaving the peace and serenity of Glendalough behind, you'll head off for a stop at a local pub for lunch (additional cost). Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and good old-fashioned home cooking of a traditional Irish pub. Why not wash lunch down with a hearty pint of Guinness?

After lunch you'll begin your return to Dublin, via Sally's Gap, where scenes from Braveheart were filmed in 1995. This scenic but desolate area of wild bogland offers a stunning contrast to the Wicklow Mountains.

You'll arrive back in Dublin in the late afternoon, with drop-off either in Ballsbridge (D4) or at Trinity College.

We're super glad we took a day trip out of the city, and the places this goes certainly didn't disappoint. Even the short coffee stop was brilliant. Highly recommended to all ages.

Our tour guide was great. A very funny little Irish man, that knows the history and politics of Ireland very well. The Wild Wicklow was absolutely stunning, reminded me of Scotland. The scenery and the history provided to us at Glendalough from our tour guide was second to none. We had plenty of stops on the tour and got the opportunity to walk in the countryside at Glendalough between the two lakes, which was great and you never felt rushed. It was just a great tour!

Wow! What a time we all had with John on this tour! He took us out of the way to a few special spots we wouldn't have seen otherwise and gave us information and tips not only pertaining to where we visited but also to Dublin City itself. He hooked us up with Jameson on the bus and even offered double pours which helps considering how rainy it got towards the end of the day when we reached the monastery. The countryside was breathtaking and he was gracious enough to stop and let us all take pictures if we needed to, answering any and all questions. At the end of the tour, he even allowed us to be dropped off close to our hotels which benefited some people immensely considering this was New Year's Eve and the city was getting quite packed. Overall, I would definitely take this tour again and would consider this one of the highlights of my trip.

We had a fabulous time on this trip. Our driver was so informative and funny. The weather was not perfect but we still enjoyed the views. Our favorite part was the sampling of Jamison whiskey. I now know that I like it and a few family members have turned it into their favorite drink of choice. When we called to find out about where the pick up spots were we were offered the option of being picked up and dropped off at our hotel Fitzpatrick's Castle. This was a great help to us. The stops along the way were fun. The food at the coffee break stop was wonderful. We can't wait to visit again.

AWESOME!!!! Just awesome! Not related with the tour the weather was awesome as well. Our guide Dave was amazing, he was all the time informing us of what we were seeing. The trip is really well organized, even though we have to be always moving it's given more than enough time to appreciate the views.
