Scenic Beauty in a remote wilderness. What a great trip we took in late-June 2015. Alan was our tour guide and he was great. A history buff, Alan taught us a massive amount during our driving time between sites.
Limited to a group of 16, we were able to cover a lot of the Highlands area over 5 days, getting to experience the scenic beauty and remote landscape that was truly amazing. Alan was laid-back, informative, and very respectful of our groups' desires, not having us on a strict schedule but allowing each stop to happen organically. The result was a tour that never felt rushed, which we appreciated after having done a similar tour the week before in Ireland! Even with the laid back pace, we were always at our lodging by 6:30PM, leaving plenty of time to explore the tiny fishing villages where we stayed.
- Note: There isn't much nightlife at the Ullapool and Portree locations, though there is much scenery.
- We stayed at the B and B Double option, finding the accommodations in Ullapool to be average and the accommodation in Portree to be slightly below average. That is specific to this tour, however, as we had much better experiences with the same level of B and B on our 5 day Ireland tour.
This tour was filled with awesome scenery and spectacular views. We were able to travel so many narrow country roads that the big tour buses would never have been able to drive. Our talented driver Alan kept us entertained with stories of the regions and provided a wide mix of music that enhanced our journey, all while taking us safely throughout the highlands. His friendliness, attention, and knowledge were greatly appreciated. The pace of the trip was perfect, with plenty of stops and enough time to see the sights. The van seats were comfortable and our small number of passengers made it convenient for restaurants and sight-seeing. We were fortunate to have a nice mix of courteous people with us too. Our B and B at Ullapool had a beautiful view of the water and was in easy walking distance to the cafes and restaurants. We enjoyed this trip so much that we took two more one day excursions with Rabbie's while we were in Scotland. We are so glad to have had such a memorable experience. Thanks again, Alan! The tour was excellent in all aspects .our tour guide Dan was exceptional in his knowledge of Scotland and surrounding area, highly recommend this tour
This is quite a fantastic tour. It is a great advert for Scotland and can easily make you fall in love with the country. Our guide Daniel was awesome with his history, myths and stories about almost every nook and cranny of the Highlands. When we went there, we experienced some rough weather but the enthusiasm of Daniel made almost all of us on the tour brave the blustery winds and getting pelted with hall. Much recommended if you want to know almost everything about Scotland. I had initially planned to drive around but I would not have heard such great Scottish songs, or known about Scottish history if it wasn't for this tour! Fantastic!
We enjoyed everything about the tour. Our guide brought Scotland to life with his stories about the history, music, and geology of the area. The B and Bs that we stayed in were very comfortable and conveniently located for walking to dinner and shops. The van was comfortable and the small group made it easy to get to know the others on the trip. We will be looking forward to plan another trip with Viator.
This was the highlights of our Scottish Tour. The trip was just the right number of days, the Tour Operator Rabbi's was great especially our Guide Peter (Wee Peter). He was like a walking encyclopedia, very true Scotsman.
Wonderful trip, great driver. Accommodation was terriffic. Cannot fault anything.
The Rabbies five day Higland Explorer tour was first class. Emily the tour guide/ driver was brilliant and was extremely professional. The small group (10 passengers) were a friendly fun loving group and we all had a marvellous time. I thoroughly recommend this tour.

The tour was with Rabbies and was fantastic! We haven't done an 'organised tour' in quite a while and were really happy with how this went as it enables you to still be relatively independent. We did the B and B option and were very happy with the standard of accommodation. We saw so much in the five days - the scenery was beautiful. Big thank you to Ross our driver/guide who was outstanding and has whetted our appetite for more travel to Scotland! Highly recommend this tour.
Pete 'the Portobello Pirate' was a very personable and knowledgeable guide, as well as a safe and competent driver. The itinerary was not taxing nor hurried, but there was an abundance of information, too much for my wife and I to remember. Only recommendation for the tour company is to provide handout maps and info sheets. Would highly recommend this tour.
outstanding ross was a perfect guide .His love of Scotland showed in everything he did .Would do it again with him .
Wonderful trip. I highly recommend Rabbie's Trail Burners small group tours.
This tour was amazing. Our guide, Doug, was the best we have ever seen; he was extremely knowledgeable about every location we visited, and filled the long drive with stories, historical legends, many laughs, and even a soundtrack. Each vista seemed more stunning than the next, and the towns we stayed in were inviting and beautiful. We expected a great trip, but this experience was even beyond our expectations - we would absolutely recommend. Thank you!
Great tour! Really recommended. Our guide, Doug, explained us everything about Scotland: History, Geography, Sport, Music, Gossip ecc. Amazing landscapes.
An very well run tour with an excellent guide, Mac. Rabbie's tours are small, no more than 16 people, and consequently can access sites that larger tours cannot. We were able to drive to some of the more remote places and the sights were incredible. Mac had a wealth of stories about the history, the people and the land and told them in a funny, colorful and very entertaining way. In addition his selections of music were completely in tune (pun intended!) with our musical tastes. The hosts at our B and Bs were charming and provided tasty and filling breakfasts. We very much enjoyed the sights, Mac's narratives and the company of our fellow passengers and were sad it was time to leave the Highlands and part company. Highly recommended tour, company and guide!
This tour was excellent! Our guide, Liam, was so knowledgeable. He took us to places we would never had gone to on our own. I wasn't sure what to expect but this tour was well worth the money! Our B and Bs were very nice. I will definitely go on another tour when vacationing!
Thank you Ross!! We had a great 5 day trip through the Highlands and Skye with you! What a great experience and perfect weather!
Great tour. Scotland is beautiful country. Loved B and B experience.
The tour was everything we hoped for - and more. From the organization of the local contact to the fantastic tour guide to the size and make-up of the group - this was a tour that we'd highly recommend. And, it goes without saying that the sites throughout the Highlands and Isle of Skye are breathtaking at every turn.
In my eyes, the trip was just perfect and I recommend it to anybody who wants to get a good overview of Scotland. The highlight was our guide Neil who did a brilliant job and gave an amazing background on Scottish history, culture and music.
When I shared my impressions of this trip with friends their comments were like “looks like you’ve found your country.” And that’s really true. I've travelled al over the world but the Highlands is the place where my heart stays. A special thanks for all that goes to our guide James. He is very passionate about his country, its people, land and history. Each day on this trip brought an unforgettable experience supported by a good story or tale. James made us feel a part of this proud heritage. The trip was very well-thought and organized with a good choice of B and B and hotels to stay for a night. Thanks again to James and Rabbie’s for the lifetime memories.

James was an outstanding driver/guide. He gave a great background on Scot history/folklore and elimated many tourist traps. Be prepared for 9am-6/7pm days. We saw a lot of the Highlands and Isle of Skye despite rainy/overcast weather. Hotel in Inverness was 1 1/2-2mi. out of city center but nice and food good. Hotel on Skye right on water front/habour w/fantastic view. Ate a lot of great fish meals.
Awesome tour!! Our guide/driver Mr. Richard was superb, very punctual, knowledgable. The places, sights and scenery we saw are unmatchable, our accommodation was B and B, and it was really comfortable. If you have the time: Don't think again!!!!
