A pleasant walk through the park will let you feel yourself an important guest in the Residence of an Empress. The town of Pushkin, which was called Tsarskoye Selo until 1917, is 24 km south of St Petersburg. It was the residence of the Tsars from the beginning of 18th century onwards (from the mid-18th to the early 19th century palace and park complex were built, including the Catherine and Alexander Parks). The Catherine's Palace is one of the best examples of Russian baroque. Walking excursion along the alleys of the Catherine Park, a wonderful work of the Russian art of gardening from the 18th and 19th centuries, which combines the masterpieces of architecture with the beauty of the transforming nature of the north.
PAVLOVSK TOUR (additional 2 hours)
Visit the superb palace and park ensemble, dating from the late 18th to the 19th century, Pavlovsk was a summer residence of the Russian emperor Paul I and his family. You will find yourself in the homelike palace of Paul I, which is situated in the town of Pavlovsk, only 40 minutes drive from the center of St Petersburg. Its architects were amongst the greatest of the period: Cameron, Brenna, Quarenghi, Voronikhin and Rossi. The landscape park, one of the largest in Europe, covers an area of 600 hectares. A magic, huge landscape park was laid around the Palace of Paul I, who was looking for solitude in this quiet picturesque place. Johann Strauss performed with an orchestra in the building of the Musical Station in the park.
