What You Can Expect

Aperitivo Tour of Florence

Enjoy Tuscan wine on your aperitivo tour!

Meet your guide at Piazza della Repubblica in central Florence, and set off on your stroll across the iconic bridge to the bohemian neighborhood of Oltrarno. First stop is an artisanal gelato parlor to try one of the shop’s popular mojito sorbets. As you savor your sorbet, your guide will talk about Florence and its all-important aperitivo scene.

A tradition firmly rooted in Italian life, aperitivo consists of a pre-dinner snack with drinks in a bar. While Milan is believed to have started the tradition in the early 1920s, other Italian cities quickly caught onto the trend, but few struggle to do it better than Florence; as the capital of Tuscany, the city has world-renowned ingredients right at its fingertips.

Leave the gelato parlor and stroll to a traditional wine bar for a glass of Tuscan wine – either Brunello di Montalcino or a Chianti reserve – alongside a platter of wild boar salami, Tuscan prosciutto (ham) and a selection of creamy ripe cheeses. Listen to your guide talking about the wine’s origins as you eat, and discover how to match wines with food.

Continue to your second and final bar of the evening near Piazza Pitti, enjoying a house cocktail with snacks. The exact dishes vary each time, but expect something typically Tuscan like bruschetta topped with juicy tomatoes and garlic. Your tour finishes here, but you can stay inside for as long as you like, making the most of your evening independently!

We met our tour guide Linda who was fantastic at Piazza della Repubblica. The directions to the meeting spot were very accurate and Linda was right on time wearing her identifying lanyard. Our tour ended up being very private- it was supposed to be a small group but I guess no one else signed up. Linda walked us to the 3 sites- at each site she helped us order a snack and drink based on our preferences. The tour includes these purchases so Linda would just handle the interchange with the vendor- to get the most Authentic/Local experience we just let Linda select our items for us. At our first stop we went to a tiny store that was established in 1875 and we had some red wine and Crustinis with unique toppings- DELICIOUS, second stop was a rooftop terrace with beautiful views, there we had traditional cocktails Negroni and Aperol Spritz, the final stop was at a winery storefront owned a one of the oldest wine families in Florence- there we had some prosecco and truffle sandwiches.

The food and drink were great, but the real value in this tour is the guide: Linda. Throughout the entire tour she would talk to us about everything Florence, from the architecture, to the history, to current/pop-culture facts, to information about the locals, to tips on what souvenirs to buy where. No question was off-limits, Linda was very friendly, fun and knowledgeable also spoke perfect English- so do not worry about communication. Linda even went out of her way to help us a couple days later when we had an issue with an un-related tour in Rome.

This tour was a perfect way for us to explore and get to know Florence. We truly were surprised by this experience and highly recommend it. Wear comfy shoes, plan on a 2.5-3 hour experience, bring a camera. Enjoy!!!

This was by far my favourite tour in our trip. Our guide was from Australia but has been living in Italy for many many years. My friend and myself arent wine drinkers so Linda catered the tour to more of a food tour for us which was brilliant. I have to say it made us so much more confident going into bars and small foodie places as we were able to experience how it all works. This is a big MUST on anyone's list!!!!!!

Adrienne was a very knowledgable guide. She gave us a lot of good information, including some cooking suggestions, restaurant recommendations and a tip on where to find the best gelato. All good advice! The walk along the Arno River was nice and went at a relaxed pace. Had some excellent sangiovese at Il Borro.
