April 2008

The male statues were either castrated or covered with leaves by the popes.

St Peter's Square

April 2008

All set up for Easter service. Unless you don't mind crowds and have a real desire to see the Pope, I wouldn't recommend Rome at Easter time. The crowds were horrible! I have never been bumped into so much in my life.

St Peter's Basillica

April 2008

Closed for our tour. Preparing for a service. This was a huge disappointment!

St Peter's Square

April 2008

This is where our tour ended. Pouring rain and our umbrellas are checked at the entrance!

The Castle

This is the castle where the wine tasting is held.

Wine

April 2008

There was a small selection of very old wines.

Overlooking the Wine fields

It was cold in March. Dress warm!

The view from our wine tasting site

March 2008

This is the view from the castle where our wine tasting took place. It was absolutely amazing!

Cellar

March 2008

We were taken through the cellar during our tour.

Wine

March 2008

These bottles were kept in the cellar. Many were dated back as far as 1904.

Wine tasting

March 2008

This is the view from our wine tasting area. We were all given cheeses and breads with different toppings. This part of Italy is known for the olive oil, which was amazing on the bread. The wine was also very good. We were given three different types to try, and then had the option of buying some. Key note, if you plan on buying wine either drink it before you fly home or make sure you have it packaged to check on the plane. If not, you will lose it.

Enoteca

March 2008

This was a small town we stopped at on our way back from the wine tasting. Again, it was nice to see some of the small towns outside of the big cities. This is my mother-in-law beside the black crow, which they are known for.
