My wife and I (in our early 30's) really enjoyed this trip. One word of caution -- I believe it says you should be of "average" physical ability to make the hikes. We're relatively active and found the hikes to be mildly challenging (fun!), BUT if you have trouble walking on uneven surfaces or taking large steps up or down, you may find the hikes to be more difficult. These are not paved paths, they are rocky and uneven. The guides do offer options of taking alternate transportation if you find you are not able to complete the walks.
The trip begins and ends with an approximately two hour bus ride to and from La Spezia. The guides pointed out some sights along the way. Our young guide Fabian was great. Lots of energy and you can tell he loves what he does. He spoke multiple languages and communicated well with everyone on the trip. Other groups seemed to equally enjoy their guides.
The bus initially drops passengers off and you begin the day with a quick (20 min) hike to lunch. Lunch was tasty and the restaurant overlooked the ocean. I forget the exact order, but after lunch there are a couple of train rides, and a 3+ mile hike in between towns. The hike was beautiful. Lots of great sites and good conversations with other travelers. In each town you have approximately 60-90 minutes to see some sites or relax. We opted to swim twice in two of the different towns. Other than losing my wedding ring in the ocean (!), we really enjoyed the rocky beaches and the water. The day ended with a boat ride back to the bus. Most people napped on the way home.
I won't lie -- it's a long day. Be prepared to spend a good portion of it walking. But if you're in Florence and want to spend a day visiting this beautiful part of the country, I don't think you'll be disappointed. We're very glad we did.
Great tour. We loved the CinqueTerre coastline and villages. Lavinia is the best guide!!! The hiking is really not too bad. We opted for both hiking segments (it is possible to opt out of the second) and were pretty sore the next day, but it was well worth it! Our weather was nice--I can imagine that if it was really hot, it might be a little difficult. Some of the group perhaps didn't read the tour details very closely and didn't come prepared--be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water. And give yourselves a free day the day after to rest up!
This tour was amazing! The guides were knowledgeable, fun, and entertaining, and really made it a great day. The sites are beautiful, the hike is fun, and it was one of our favorite days in Italy. Highly recommend this trip! Well worth it!
The tour was a cherry on top of the cake on my last day of travelling around Northern Italy! Our guides Sandra and Lavinia were sensational! Energetic, smily and full of interesting tips and history regarding the regions we were hiking in.
Highly recommend the trip!! It's a must do and see!!! ;-)
Great guides! A perfect day trip, although there is much more to see than time allows in a day! Picturesque villages, and includes and amazing lunch. A MUST SEE/DO experience while in Italy!
Absolutely Fabulous!!!! Freddy was a first rate tour director. The weather, food, lunch view, hike, information, relaxing free time, boat ride and bus ride made for a Perfect Day. Thank You for your effort!!!!
What an amazing experience. The tour group that Viator contracts with is top notch. We took the tour on 9/11/14, there were a total of 3 groups that were heading to Cinque Terre. We were in 3 separate coach buses and were spaced out just enough so that we weren't on top of one another during the hike and lunch. Our guide Chris was very personable, informative and friendly. The experience you get out of this tour totally surpasses the money you paid for the tour. My favorite part was definitely the hike. Definitely recommend wearing tennis shoes. I was too lazy to bring a proper pair of sneakers and instead wore my strappy sketchers. Trust me, you want to wear a pair of tennis shoes for the hike. It'd rained earlier before our hike began, there were some muddy parts where the trail got a bit slippery. But if you're careful enough you should be fine. The wind cooperated that day so we were able to go on the boat. Again what an amazing view and experience. The trip did indeed take a full 12 hour...it was a long day but i would do it all over again without a doubt. Thank you Chris and the amazing driver Giusepe for a wonderful trip to Cinque Terre.
It was so wonderful thanks to Martina. It was well organized. A great deal for the money. Again we say Martina deserves a raise:)
Loved it and would recommend it to all

Great guide and incredible view! Not sure how people walked in wedge shoes, flip flops or slip on sandals?? This was definately a "hike" where runners or hiking shoes were required. It was a great day!
Personable and very informative tour guide. Plenty of flexibility in the tour, i.e. to hike at your own pace and meet back at a certain time. Perfect tour for a single day. Pitty the weather was not perfect which meant one walk was cancelled. But overall I absolutely loved it!
Loved it. Guides were great. Very strenuous hike for older folks from Florida but a guide stayed with us all the way. Lovely scenery. Did I say this was strenuous??!!! Wear hiking shoes tho I did see some kids in flip flops! We would do this again!
Most exceptional Tour. Best tour guide Angel, friendly, funny, informative, all round great. Excellent value for money. We had a great group, bit of a trek but easily manageable, stunning views, one of the best lunches ever had. Beautiful towns and coastline. Cannot rave enough about this tour. Memories to last a lifetime.
Kind Regards, Colin and Judy
