I have been traveling through Italy for over 3 weeks and this is still the best experience I've had. This is a MUST DO in Florence. Loved every second of it, from the food tour of Florence to the beautiful kitchen and marvellous chef, Carmela. If there is only one thing you do in Florence, this is it.
This was the best part of our trip. A fantastic day. From the visit to the cafe (included with treats) to the trip through the market to picking the tomatoes in Tuscany to cooking pork, bolanese sauce, potatoes, bruchetta, pasta, pizza, tiramisu, and gelato, everything was perfect! The estate was beautiful and the food perfect. We even left with our aprons and a brand new cookbook I totally recommend! Wish I could go again!!!!
Great tour! Mara and Carmela were the perfect hosts for this fun day in Florence. Eating, drinking, cooking, and meeting interesting people all while enjoying the awesome view from the hilltop farm. It was a perfect day, we highly recommend this tour!
WOW, WOW, WOW! This tour was awesome!!! Such a great day with tour guide Martina, Chef Carmela and Pizza Cook Arla. The whole experience was from start to finish was fantastic...from the local market tour in the morning to the picking of fresh ingredients in the garden to the cooking lessons with Carmela and the hands on cooking session in making a complete meal. The breath taking view of Tuscany was just incredible as we sat to eat the lunch that we just prepared while we enjoyed a glass of wine with our meal. Martina (our guide) was so knowledgeable in Tuscan history and shared many stories and facts with us throughout the day. As the day unfolded Martina and Carmela soon became our friends (not just our hostesses for the day) and saying goodbye at the end of the day was as if we were saying goodbye to family.
We strongly recommend this tour to everyone and we look forward to doing this tour again on our next trip to Italy.

What a fantastic day - definitely the highlight of our holiday! We first had a little tour of Florence and learnt some food related history (this wasn't expected so was an extra treat). We had coffee in a lovely bar, wine in a fantastic little shop (which I will definitely be visiting again) and perused the huge indoor market. And this was all before the cooking class! The Farmhouse was just outside of the centre of Florence (not far at all) and was beautiful. We harvested our own vegetables, ate figs straight from the tree, then commenced the cooking class with a lovely Italian woman, Carmela. The food was fantastic (bring a large appetite) and well spread throughout the day. We made our own pasta from scratch (without a pasta machine), and got to have a go with the wood fire oven. To top it all off we sat down outside for the remaining courses overlooking the beautiful Tuscan countryside. It was such a fun day - I'd recommend it to anyone who loves to cook, or eat! I certainly felt like I took home a little piece of Italy (along with a book, apron and certificate).
Thank you Mara and Carmela for a fantastic day :) !!
This was my fifth cooking class in Florence and undoubtedly the best I have done so far. Unlike many of the other courses offered in Florence, this class takes you around the centre of Florence, allowing you to make a connection between the city, it's culture and food. Lavi was a great tour leader, as she was so informative and passionate about tuscan cuisine. We had coffee in a local florentine bar, ate cheese tastings at centrale mercato, and drank wine before we took a private transfer to the tuscan farmhouse where we were welcomed by our italian chef, Carmella. She was a lovely lady who had so much energy and was full of laughter. the class was very hands on, I was so happy that we were able to do everything, as in my past classes, you usually are only able to do half the work and the chefs complete the final production. we made a delcious five course meal of bruschetta, homemade pizza, taglietelle alla ragu, roast pork with rosemary potatoes, tiramisu and gelato. We were able to enjoy this meal while overlooking carmella's garden. I cannot fault anything about this tour, except that they don't offer another one! If you only have the opportunity to do one cooking class in your stay in florence, I recommend this one. This tour is run by some very passionate and kind people who love what they do, it makes you wish that every tour you went on was like this.
This tour was the highlight of my entire trip to Europe!
We started with an educational walk through down town Florence and then to the market to buy a few ingredients for the day. We got to do many taste tests!
Then we hopped into Taxi's and made our way to a BEAUTIFUL farm where our chef was waiting for us. We got to pick our tomatoes and herbs fresh from her garden!
Our Chef didn't speak any English but our guide would translate. Everything was so hands on and you definitely walk away from the day with the skills you will need to be able to make all of these dishes at home by yourself.
We then were served the meal we had just created by our lovely hosts.
There was plenty of wine, beer and cheese to munch on during the entire day.
It was an experience I will never forget, and one of the best meals I have ever eaten!
My wife and I spent two weeks traveling throughout out Italy. We booked this tour before any reviews had been posted and we are very glad that we did. This was definitely one of and quite possible the highlight of our trip. Our guide Mara was really nice and informative as we started out visiting a couple shops to include a pastry and caffe bar, the Florence central market and finally a wine shop. After which we took a taxi ride up to the farmhouse where we were immediately amazed by the views of the Tuscan country side as we walked through the vegetable and herb gardens which Mara herself maintains. Next we went to the house where we were greeted by the very hospitable Carmela who immediately welcomed us into her home. We were immediately presented with bruschetta. We then proceeded to make Tiramisu, Florentine gelato, homemade pasta with a Bolognese sauce, and a roast pork with potatoes and rosemary. While allowing the Bolognese sauce to simmer down and the pork to roast, we moved outside to the pizza oven next to their future space for cooking classes (under construction but will be amazing when complete). Carmela's daughter came to show us how to form the pizza dough and cook it in the wood oven. After all the food was cooked, we sat outside on the picnic tables in their garden area overlooking the countryside while we ate the food we made together. This experience is one that I don't think that we will ever forget. This experience is one that I would recommend anyone coming to Florence should experience. We wish good luck to Mara and Carmela and we hope that our paths cross again someday!

our host from walkabout was very friendly warm and welcoming. We enjoyed cooking with Carmela and her family we made made 5 dishes and all were wonderful. The location and surrounding were peaceful and beautiful. Its a long day but we would recommend it as we went to the market tasted different olives and bread had a glass of wine and coffee at a cafe.
We came across this tour on Viator after seeing several other cooking classes that had reviews indicating they ended up being large groups that were rushed through the cooking process. Despite the lack of reviews when we booked this tour, we were hopeful it would be the hands-on experience we were looking for...and we were not disappointed!
There were only four people total in our group. My boyfriend and I met Mara at the tour office. Mara guided us on a leisurely tour around Florence with a focus on food culture. The highlight of the walking tour was the visit to the San Lorenzo market where Mara purchased meat, cheese and olives for our cooking lesson.
We then took a taxi to the Carmella's home, which is situated down the hill from the farmhouse which will be used for future cooking classes (construction is almost complete and it looks like a fabulous space for classes!). Mara has a great deal of passion for food, cooking and gardening and shared her amazing garden with us where we selected produce for our meal.
We all gathered in Carmella's kitchen where she graciously walked us through preparing pasta, sauce, a meat course, gelato and tirimisu. We also learned to make pizza dough and went outside to make our own pizzas in the wood-fired oven. The results were very tasty!
We then sat outside near the garden and enjoyed the beautiful weather and the view as Mara served us our finished meal. It was an amazing day with amazing food in an awesome location! The recipes were easy and delicious...we can't wait to try them at home!
We would highly recommend this tour - we hope to return to Florence and take another tour with this company.
A wonderful day spent with Mara learning about Florence and its food and visiting the market to make our purchases. We really enjoyed meeting our host Carmela and spending the day in her kitchen, touring the incredible garden, and enjoying her family's beautiful property on the outskirts of Florence. Thanks to Carmela's watchful eye and instructions we created a delicious Tuscan meal and were able to enjoy it with a nice Chianti and the views of Tucany. We did this 'tour' as a family and loved it. Carmela helped our son each step of the way and provided a delicious non-coffee version of Tiramsou that he was proud to devour. This tour was the best of our two-week visit to France and Italy !!
My husband and I truly enjoyed this all day tour and experience! Cooking in the Tuscan hills and learning about Italian food was such a treat for the both of us! Our guide, Martini, and chef, Carmela were outstanding! The food and wine were exceptional! Can't wait for our recipes to try them at home
We had a wonderful day and have told everyone how great it was. Mara and Camillia were perfect hosts and we enjoyed every minute of the day from buying food in the market to cooking our shopping in the magnificent hillside kitchen of Tuscany. I can't praise the tour or the ladies enough. Long may it continue and I wish them all the success in the future. We had two weeks in Italy and this day was definately was the highlight especially for my husband a committed non-cook of over 35 years who is now keen to get his hands on my pots and pans in the kitchen!! Thank you again for a wonderful day. Lesley Anne and Bryan Sparshot
This tour was excellent, provided unique and interesting details of the food history of Florence. This was achieved by the walking tour of the food market and several destinations thru- out Florence! This was a great value because essentially you are eating your way thru the day by getting lunch, dinner, walking tour, and cooking class! Mara was an incredible hostess, tour guide, and educator ! Carmela was geniue Italy chef with incredible patience to teach students with out making you feel bad about screw up's! The cooking class felt like you were being taught by and with family how to make wonderful food.
The beautiful location, a scenic view of Florence, a fantastic working garden that is breathtaking both in beauty and function, and a totally cool outdoor pizza oven. You will be so amazed and impressed that you will want to plant your own working garden and build your own outdoor pizza oven.
What made this experience special was that you could actually see and feel the passion and love that Mara and Carmela have for food, gardening, and sharing this with others. We are looking forward to receiving via email the actual recipes for everything that we made that day so we can make these wonderful dishes at home again and again.

This cooking class was probably the best part of our trip to Italy. The class provided everything in the description plus a few extras thrown in to surprise us. What really made the class stand out was that from the tour guides to the head chef you could tell everyone was very passionate about what they did. They were truly excited to share the Tuscan culture with us. It was a remarkable experience and we can't wait to go back home and cook an Italian meal for our families! We highly recommend going. Its great for all ages. It's very memorable and definitely something worth doing.
