What You Can Expect

Horse Riding in Chianti Day Trip from Florence

Explore the beautiful Chianti region by horseback during your day trip from Florence

Choose from a morning or afternoon horse trek, then set off by minivan from central Florence into the Chianti countryside to begin your tour. Widely considered home to some of Italy’s most beautiful scenery, Chianti boasts rolling hills, dense forests, fertile soils, grape-laden vines and centuries-old olive groves.

After a 45-minute drive out of Florence, arrive at the stables where your horse awaits. Listen to a brief safety introduction and enjoy a 30-minute orientation lesson, during which you’ll have the chance to get acquainted with your horse. The stables cater for riders of all abilities and beginners are very welcome — previous riding experience is not necessary. Riding hats (helmets) are provided free of charge and casual clothes can be worn.

Head out from the stables on horseback with your guide and explore the open fields and forested trails of the Chianti countryside. Pass ancient olive groves and row after row of vineyards, and gain insight into the rural heart of Tuscany.

After one hour on horseback, alight and hop back into your minivan for the onward journey to a prestigious local winery. Enjoy a guided tour of the cellars where barrels of fine wines lie slowly maturing and listen as your guide details the Chianti region’s rich winemaking heritage and traditions.

Drive onward for five minutes to a boutique winery in the cellars of a magnificent Italian villa, surrounded on all sides by rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves. Sit down to a delicious lunch or dinner (depending on option selected) of traditional Tuscan specialities such as Pecorino cheese, prosciutto, salami and bruschetta, and enjoy a tasting session of some of the finest Chianti wines. (The wine tasting fee is included in the tour and wines are also for sale). Listen to an introduction on the theory of wine-tasting and gain insight into the complex fruit flavors at play in your glass.

At the conclusion of your meal, take the 45-minute journey back to central Florence by minivan, where your tour will come to an end.

Please note: This tour is suitable for anyone aged 14 and above, even with no riding experience.

By far one of the highlights of my trip to Italy. This was a great experience and lots of fun.

This was an amazing experience. There was a little bit of delay right at the beginning but I guess that was also because of the group. The horse riding was a very lovely experience and it was enjoyable by the whole group. The wine tasting was also good but we would have liked a few more varieties to try out. The dinner was very good but maybe a few more varieties would be better appreciated.

This was a great trip.our guide,Franchesco, spoke great English and was very knowledgeable about the region. I am glad we sat in the front seat because the van was not equipped with a microphone or speakers and the people in the back seat had a harder time hearing what he was saying.

our guide was fantastic. Debbie her name was. informative and fun. our horses were great and well behaved. the dinner at the winery was excellent.and our guide was very knowledgeable, I forgot his name but he was funny and friendly. the whole day was well woth it. I would've like a bit more time for dinner so we could've had time to digest and enjoy a little more relaxation before we went back, but it was great none the less.

Do it!! We had a great time. My daughter said It was a perfect day. So much fun, very professionally run, the horses were beautiful, the food during the lunch was fabulous, the farmhouse beautiful, the people were gracious and lovely and lastly our tour guide Eduardo was so funny and sweet. Just fantastic. We would do it again and have been telling everyone we know about it. The only thing I wish was that we had a wine tasting available if we wanted it at the Ruffino vineyard. But that is really stretching to find something not perfect about this tour or our day!

This tour was great! it was a nice combination of various things horse back riding, wine tasting and lunch. I chose to do this rather than a fully dedicated wine tour and am happy I did!!

The trail ride on horseback was very enjoyable. Helmets are provided and the whole ride is done at a walk but you are there for the scenery so this is fine.
