Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Siena's Palio Horse Race from Florence Including City Tour and Dinner. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
The History and the energy was incredible, a must do. Make sure you eat before going on the bus, there is little time and opportunity while in Sienna. We lightly toured the city, saw a Blessing of a Contrada horse. The parade was amazing. Be warned, you will stand in the Piaza with thousands of others, you can sit but it is annoying while everyone else is standing around you and you will have to stand for the parade and race. GO TO BATHROOM BEFORE ENTERING THE TOWN SQUARE!!!!You will be in the piaza for 3 hours, you cannot leave. It is 2 1/2 hours of parade, 28 minutes of getting ready to race and 2 minutes of pure adrenaline racing. Worth it. You can buy seats in bleachers and window separately via internet, but they are expensive starting at 250 euro up to 500 euro. Dinner was good location in the piaza, food included antipasta and choice of pizza or two types of pasta and dessert. Wine included. This package was a great value
well organized, fantasy performance, good dinner, nice guide. Exellent tour.
Great tour, lots of fun and a great group of people.
It was a long day and I recommend to others to take a small sun/rain umbrella, water and a cushion as the wait for the parade and race to begin was long.
This was a nightmare but mainly because our guide was inept. He was inexperienced and rude His drinking on the job didn't help. We waited hours for pizza when he didn't handle the service/menu correctly. I think we were 3 hours late getting back to Florence. This is a local event to skip!
Main tour guide who took us from Florence was very good. However, the tour guide in Sienna was horrible. First, she literally ran us through Sienna without time to stop a minute for pictures or for a breath. Granted it was a very busy day in Sienna, but at other points in the tour we spent at least an hour sitting under a tree to waste time before going into the main Piazza for the race. This time could have been spent taking a slower pace through Sienna and learning more about the city. I would recommend going to Sienna on my own next time for the Palio - the Sienna tour guide did nothing to enhance the trip.
