What You Can Expect

Skip the Line: Florence Uffizi Gallery Tour

See astounding works of art by the likes of Botticelli

Meet your guide outside the Uffizi Gallery in central Florence, and then work your way past the long entrance lines to head straight inside with your skip-the-line entrance ticket. The impressive museum boasts more than 1,500 pieces of artwork spread throughout some 45 rooms, so let your guide introduce you to its highlights on your 1.5-hour tour.

Housed in a vast horseshoe-shaped building designed by Giorgio Vasari, the Uffizi Gallery’s history is as interesting to hear about as the works inside it. Originally intended as the home of Florence’s judiciary offices, the palace was lavished with fine art by the ruling Medici family. After their dynasty fell in the 18th century, the palace was opened to the public and has remained popular ever since.

While the Uffizi Gallery is home to pieces of art dating back to the times of the Ancient Greeks, its claim to fame is its wealth of Renaissance artwork, and your guide will walk you through the most interesting rooms. Admire early Renaissance treasures by Giotto, and then stroll through halls dedicated to Michelangelo, da Vinci, Caravaggio and Raphael – artists regarded as the masters of their time.

Learn about famous pieces like da Vinci’s Annunciation, Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo and Titian’s Venus of Urbino, and then explore the upper level of the gallery where some of Caravaggio’s finest works can be seen.

Your tour finishes inside the museum, but you can stay inside as long as you want to re-visit your favorite works, or look at different paintings. If you choose the Morning or Afternoon departure and you want to take a break from the artwork, rest in the rooftop café and admire gorgeous views over the city. Food and drinks are at your own expense.

Alternatively, you can select the Evening Tour with an aperitivo or dinner if you prefer. After the tour finish, your guide will lead you to the restaurant where you will enjoy a classic Italian Aperitivo - snacks and drink - or a traditional Italian Dinner while you enjoy the view of Piazza Signoria, one of the most beautiful squares in the world.

The guide was waiting at the museum 15 minutes beforehand as advised. We were given an earpiece and a receiver which we wore around our necks - this allowed the guide to speak in a normal speaking voice but we could hear her over everyone else. I think her our guide's name was Ide. She was very knowledgeable and took us around the museum at a good pace and allowed us plenty of time to look at the exhibits. Be warned - although you do have skip the line access with this tour we still had to wait 20 minutes to get into the Uffizi just because of the way that they allow people into the museum, so there was a lot of waiting around before we got in. We then had to queue to go through the metal detectors and then there are four flights of stairs to climb! Our tour was due to start at 4.30pm and we didn't get to the first exhibit until 5pm. However, I would really recommend this tour as an excellent way to see the best exhibits in the museum.
