Itinerary

Day 1 - Frankfurt to Rothenburg
Departing Frankfurt, you’ll head through the picturesque Spessart Mountains to Würzburg, a vibrant city on the banks of the River Main. Continue to Rothenburg ob der Tauber where you’ll be met by a taxi to be transferred to your hotel.

Then join a Rothenburg city walk (included) with a Night Watchman of Rothenburg (or a local guide) to see the top Rothenburg attractions, including the medieval old town, the town wall that has encircled the city since the 14th century and the Church of St Jacob, which treasures an altar by the famous sculptor Tilmann Riemenschneider.

Overnight accommodation: Hotel Spitzweg (or similar). You will have free time for lunch and dinner.

Day 2 - Rothenburg to Augsburg (Breakfast included)
After breakfast at your hotel, take a taxi transfer to the bus stop where you'll board the coach to continue your trip along the Romantic Road. After departing Rothenburg, you'll pass Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen -- picturesque towns full of cobbled-stone streets and medieval buildings -- before arriving in Augsburg in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to explore Augsburg, a well-known university town, on your own.

Overnight accommodation: InterCity Hotel (or similar). You will have free time for lunch and dinner.

Day 3 - Augsburg to Hohenschwangau (Breakfast included)
After breakfast, start the third day of your trip with a city tour (included) of Augsburg that departs from City Hall (Rathaus). See top Augsburg attractions, including the Augsburg Cathedral and the Fuggerei, named after a 15th- and 16th-century trading family, the Fuggers, who once made Augsburg their banking empire.

In the afternoon, board the coach for the drive to Hohenschwangau, where you'll spent your last night.

Overnight accommodation: Hotel Müller (or similar). You will have free time for lunch and dinner.

Day 4 - Hohenschwangau to Munich (Breakfast included)
After breakfast, get your ticket (included) to Neuschwanstein Castle from the desk of your hotel and spend the day at the castle, exploring independently. Admire King Ludwig’s beautiful apartments and staterooms and soak up the fairytale-like atmosphere of this magnificent hilltop castle, before you travel back home.

This was a great tour. The only negative I have was the city tour in Augsburg. The tour guide was probably 80 years old and the tour was in German and English. He would speak about 10 minutes in German, and then one sentence in English. Otherwise, everything was really nice. The hotels were great. I would definitely do this again.

Hotels were good. Tour office at Frankfurt and one bus driver were less friendly. Another driver did not speak English and lazy, as a result we missed a bus station in Augsburg my wife and I had to walk a long distance to the Intercity Hotel at Central train station. On the next day departing Augsburg, bus was late 45 minutes I called Frankfurt tour office and bus driver was not happy that I called the office. Overall tour expenience was good. We are planning Canada Rockies and Alaska Cruise next year, do you have any proposals? Thanks.

Most of the tour was great and highly recommend it to anyone wanting see the Romantic Road. Rothenburg and Neuschanstein castle portions were the highlights. Augsburg's self guided tour was only a one star - one of the hand held devices didn't work and we need up having to share. The directions given on the hand held devices was not always clear and it became frustrating as we weren't quite sure where we were supposed to be. Augsburg should be toured just not a self guided tour.

The 4 day romantic road tour was quite enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed the area around Ludwig's castle and the Hotel Meuller was very very nice. Didn't think much of Augsberg and wondered why we had to stay there at all when the time could have been better spent elsewhere. Really enjoyed Rothenberg and again the accommodation provided there was excellent. Commentary on the bus was a bit limited and could be improved a bit.

1 star rating: I do not recommend this July 2015

Meh...this could have been SOOO much better, not because Germany doesn't have beautiful sights, but because the company, Tour and Touring, could have been much more efficient. I've taken many tours before and other companies really have their art down to a science. Not this one. First, I went to pick up my packet at their office as instructed before heading to the bus and the attendant, a Spanish lady, was extremely rude. She didn't acknowledge my presence when I introduced myself and then a few minutes later randomly took the voucher I had in my hand to grab my materials. The bus driver was annoyed when out of all that paperwork it's a decent amount they give you, I couldn't find the exact voucher he needed for me to board the bus. He took the package from me in exasperation no English and took what he needed. The tour guide was nice enough BUT: We only had a tour guide up until Rothenburg, THAT's IT!!! After Rothenburg for the next couple of days, you get a tape that the bus plays automatically when you enter a specific town. No personal touch whatsoever, like taking public transportation. Second, the tour guide was as tactless as they come. Most of the tourists on board were American and yet he made silly comments like how his favorite phrase was that This wasn't made in America and how Americans copied the German highway structure but you know they have more miles, but it has less quality, like for America. Are you Kidding? How old are we?? Rothenburg was beautiful, a must see and the driver in charge of our hotel transportation was extremely friendly and punctual. There are several stops between the main cities but they are all about 20 mins, barely enough to really see anything. And the Romantic Road gimmick is really just that, there's a lot of highway. Oh and there was an error on my pick up time in Augsburg which sent me scrambling an hour early. Don't do this tour, at least not with them You're better off just seeing the main sights on your own!
