Very pretty drive! Tour Guide was great, may suggest incorporating a lunch spot or suggesting bringing a lunch.
The driver was very charming and the scenery was beyond beautiful. Each stop on the trip was well chosen and very relaxed, and we never felt like we were in some kind of tourist machine, like on so many other trips. The Friary was peaceful and relaxing, the Abbey was expansive and very scenic, and the cherry on top was a 'tea break' in Cong, which is impossibly quaint and charming. Possibly our favorite daytrip of the entire holiday.
M. Rooney was an awesome guide. Very knowledgeable and charming. We appreciated all the extras and it was the perfect way for my elderly parents to have access to this part of Ireland.
I prefer to drive and tour in our car, however, this was definitely the best way to see Connemara from Galway.
I could not possibly have seen the wonderful sights in both Galway and Mayo that I saw from our comfortable coach- even if it rained at times!
The main difference from doing your own thing is to have a very experienced, amusing and extremely knowledgeable driver/guide such as Michael O'Malley! How he negotiated some of these narrow roads was amazing as the attached photos show.
We were worried that an 8 hour trip would be too much but actually time flew by and I did not fall asleep once.
Great value for money!
Provides a great opportunity to see countryside. The bonus of stopping to see Quiet Man town and bridge was a nice bonus.
We really enjoyed our trip. We originally took the trip to see Cong, the village where The Quiet Man was filmed but truly enjoyed the countryside and Kylemore Abbey. Ross Errilly Friary was an amazing stop for atmospheric photography. I highly recommend this tour.
It took a lot of time getting out of Galway. Several stops to get people. Trip was good. The driver, guide was good.
This made for a long day of looking at green but we recommend. The friary was my favorite part. A great contrast to the giftshop etc of the Abbey. Make sure to bring "off" wipes or some other sort of insect repellent for the Abbey. I missed one spot along my arm that the midges took full advantage of, I hate to think of how other people faired that didn't have repellent at all.
This was a wonderful trip with spectacular scenery. I had no idea what i was going to see and i was completely surprised. I was a solo traveler and it was a perfect trip. All the extra stops were wonderful.
The only bad thing was the driver constantly telling us his opinion about things.
Our trip was fantastic, we enjoyed a lot. Good staff and really nice explanations. The driver was funny!
We high recommend to do this excursion.
Beautiful! Great tour guide, lots of interesting information, great stops along the way.
This tour takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in Northwestern Ireland. Here we had a series of small short stops mixed in with many other photo ops. The region while not heavily populated is a fantastic day trip and I strongly recommend it. The tour guide was knowledgeable and actively participated in answering our questions and trying to accommodate us.
Interesting tour. Driver was knowledgeable and friendly. Would take this tour again.
In general we were very happy with the tour and the organisation in general.
Unfortunately there were a few things which were a bit messy: We were picked up on time from our B and B and then made a tour of the whole city to pick up yet more people. Once we made the whole turn in almost half an hour (we could have walked there in 5 minutes if we would have known) we all had to leave the bus to go into another. Which was extremely crowded... We were a group of 4 and there were only single seats left. Arrangements with other passengers made it possible that at least 2 and 2 could sit together (we had a child with us).
Once close to the Ross Errilly Friary we were informed that this part of the trip had to be cancelled as they were making a film at the location and we couldn't even stop for photos. And that was it. Very disappointing.
The busdriver who also did all the talking was quite nice and new a lot of things, but he kept repeating himself quite a lot. What was really annoying was the part when he wanted to sell the tickets for Kylemore Abbey. Like a never ending advertisement. Also, Viator should say in the description that tickets could be purchased at a special price from the driver. We did some research before we discovered that queuing at the ticket desk would waste a lot of time. So we wanted to be smart and purchased our tickets online. This was a big mistake, as the girl at the ticket desk had to exchange our online tickets to "normal" tickets. Ridiculous, and it took forever.
Again, why didn't Viator inform us before that the tickets could be purchased at a cheaper price from the driver directly and we would have avoided the queue???
Talking so much about the quiet man it would have been nice to stop at the famous bridge (we passed directly in front of it). But as some people had to get their bus or train or whatever we had to speed up everything and didn't stop at all.
But all in all, it was a great day and I had previously very good experiences with Viator
I used this tour company for 3 tours while In Galway. This was my least favorite. The sites were beautiful as was the Abby. However the bus driver Mike O. Seemed like he would have rather not been at work for the day. Especially disappointing was the lack of real information and the abundance of bad jokes. Upon our return to the station as I have gathered from other tours, people are redeposited to the places they were picked up from in the morning. Mike pulled into the station, pointed the way to the town center and proceeded to unload the bus. A lot of people were confused and didn't know how to get back to their respective hotels. Myself and four other people stayed on the bus and asked him who was going to take us back to our drop off spots. His answers were curt and it was clear that he didn't want the responsibility of doing more than helping us exit the bus. Since several of us were miles away we stayed fast until he begrudgingly agreed to take is back. I would strongly recommend this tour but would encourage you to ask for a different driver.
