Absolutely breathtaking. This tour was one of the top highlights of our 25 day European adventure. The bus driver was knowledgeable and provided a great impromptu narrative during our drive to Chamonix when the recording was not working. The tour was very well-organized and the sites themselves gondola to mountaintop and ice caves were fabulous. As an aside, we used Viator for several Europe tours and each one was of great quality. Viator will remain on our favorites for future travels.
Neil the driver was the perfect host. His knowledge of the area was fascinating and could not have done more to have made the day special was our Wedding Anniversary. Nothing was any trouble for him and he would go that extra mile to make the day memorable. Aiguille du Midi was, literally, breath taking and well worth the price. One of these 'must do's'. As for Chamonix simply delightful.
There are a few options to visit Chamonix but the benefit to this one is definitely the lunch, do NOT skip the lunch option. Not only is it about 1/2 price of what a meal out in Geneva will cost you, but it was the best meal of my entire trip through Switzerland. I was treated like royalty at a Michelin star restaurant and if I was eating some of the dishes in the privacy of my own home, I would have licked the plate.
This tour offers the open top bus which is, I believe, the only tour company that does from Geneva. The bus wasn't really the highlight of my trip and I recommend a hat or sunglasses because the sun does beat down on you in the morning through the glass.
The only real downside to this tour was there just wasn't a lot of time. I booked it up to the mountain by speaking to the guide while everyone was in the bathroom and was able to get a jump start on the line up to Mont Blanc, which helped moved the day along faster, but time really flew all day. Between waiting in lines and the transportation time for the round trip cable cars and trains don't expect to get much shopping in. In order to fully appreciated the village of Chamonix you have to cruise through the mountain and the ice cave. If you prefer a day of shopping in Chamonix, you can skip the ice cave. It's quite a hike to get down and back up to it. But I will say, my photos from the cave got the biggest reaction from my friends. It really was a unique experience.
Worth every penny. The views are spectacular and the pace of everything is very nicely planned -- you're free to wander or request the assistance of your guide from place to place. Additionally, the lunch is well worth it. It's an incredible nice restaurant and pleasantly breaks up the day.
Loved this tour. We went for the complete tour including lunch. So happy we did, the food was amazing. The Alps are breathtaking and so worth the money. Only complaint was the bus was open glass and the air conditioning was not working. Hot on the way home.
This tour was very well organised, what we saw on our way and during our tour was stunning, this will always be a very sweet and memorable experience for me and my wife.
This tour is amazing! Chamonix is a lovely town and the snow moutains are fantastic! The views from Aiguille du midi and the amazing ice cave are definitely worth the visit! Highly recommend!
We wandered around the village and relaxed.....the views were amazing. Absolutely loved Chaminex. Enjoyed the trip back with the top of the bus open.
The trip was excellent. Fortunate that the weather was good and the views from the top of the mountain were amazing.
Very well organized worth taking it.
Highly reccomend it.
It was more than what I had expected.
Absolutely wonderful trip. As it turned out, the only people on our bus was my husband, daughter, myself and our driver, Darren. This tour is so new to Viator and even though it was only the 3 of us, they still went forward with it. Thank you so much!! We loved the Aiguille du Midi cable car ride and the time we had to walk around the town of Chamonix. Having lunch with Mont Blanc as the backdrop was simply amazing!!
Simply Superb! This was the highlight of my European trip and it was everything I had hoped for and more.
The tour was really well organised, commentary informative and entertaining, and the views from the bus were amazing. The glass roof was closed as it was chilly but you still felt so much more part of the mountains than on a regular tour bus.
The Aiguille du Midi was awesome. You are so high up and the views are spectacular.
I would recommend this tour to everyone.
We really enjoyed this tour despite the inclement weather. The time allotted for the activities was adequate and we didn't feel rushed. I did have to take off a star from my review, as the audio commentary that was to be provided during the round trip was not operational. Here are some recommendations for others considering this trip: 1 You may not want to book this trip too far in advance. Instead, first see what weather is forecasted for the days you are considering. The right weather will make all the difference. 2 We did not include the lunch, which worked out better for us. After the trip up the mountain, we grabbed a quick lunch in town, then took the train ride to the glacier. This gave us over two hours to wander the town and pick up dinner at a far better price than if we had waited to eat once back in Geneva.
The tour was organized very well- we left Geneva and received a lot of good information about the different areas during our 1.5 hour drive to Chamonix. The lunch at the Michelen star restaurant was highly recommended! Hindsight being 20/20, it'd be smart to get the full package or be ready to buy tickets when you get there to go up the mountain range. Chamonix is beautiful but there is not too much to see and if we didn't end up going to Mont Blanc I think we could've gotten bored with the amount of time we spent.
Thouroughly enjoyed our trips up the mountain and down into the ice caves. The only reason we rated it a 4 instead of 5 was because of the weather. Certainly not anything the tour operators have control over. Fortunately we rose above the clouds into sunshine at the top of the gondola which made the trip extremely worthwhile.
A bit disappointed did not get to the peak glass void as the cable car to peak was halted due to weather condition. The ice cave was closed for maintenance too. Moreover, the bus multi languages audio system was not working and glass roof was never opened. Overall a so-so experience only.
We did the Chamonix French Alps Day Tour from Geneva by Open top Bus 18th May 2015.
It was so disappointing!
From the very beginning, the bus was late for 10 mins. We were all waiting outside the hotel in the cold for more than half an hour. We were told to arrive at least 15mins earlier before the schedule pick up time at 8.15am and most of us were there earlier.
Then, we have to wait for some of the pax to go back to their hotel to take their passports and there was another delay of at least 20mins.
With all the delays, we were late by schedule for about 45mins.
And why bother to even send a faulty bus with no audio available. We can't even hear what the guide/driver was saying when he had to drive and give explantations at the same time on a stuffy bus with no ventilation.
The void on the french alps was closed. The ice cave on the Mer de Glace was closed as well. And your guide can tell us, usually around this time of the year, it's closed for maintenance.
Meaning to say, this is kinda expected and yet we were not inform before hand if we would like to opt out the Mer de Glace.
Come on, i really feel shortchanged.
This trip was the worst we ever had. Not only with irresponsible group of pax that keep making us wait for them the WHOLE Trip, faulty bus, one guide / driver and he look like he can't cope that well and with half of the attractions closed.
I really feel shortchanged for this trip and it did ruin our day.
