What You Can Expect
In Montreux, spend the bulk of your day exploring the extensive Christmas market, where you can browse charming local crafts and buy Christmas gifts and souvenirs for loved ones. Don't miss the chance to enjoy a cup of steaming Swiss hot chocolate!
Afterward, head to nearby Château de Chillon, a beautiful castle with a dramatic position on Lake Geneva that's one of Switzerland's most famous monuments. Enjoy a 1-hour guided tour of Chåteau de Chillon to learn more about its colorful history and the artists and writers it has inspired. Lord Byron made the castle famous with his poem 'The Prisoner of Chillon' and scratched his signature in the castle's dungeon.
Leave Chåteau de Chillon and admire your Christmas purchases on the drive back to Geneva, ending your 8.5-hour day trip to Montreux at the bus station at around 6:30pm.
I participated this tour in late December. When I booked it, I was not sure if it was the best option because boat trip sounded nice, too. But this trip proved to be definitely better because it snowed on that day and boat trip was not possible. The guide was wonderful and I really enjoyed it.
A picturesque trip travelling from Geneva to Montreux by coach with the lake on one side and countryside on the other. Chillon Castle on the edge of the lake was most interesting. The Christmas Markets were busy and fun.
Arrived at Geneva after Christmas , montreux markets were already closed, itinerary was changed to include Lausanne . Enjoyed the trip with great guide. Chillon Castle was impressive.
Tour guide was very informative, and the castle was the highlight, although we didn't have a guided tour as I'd thought we would. The Christmas market was nice, although items are expensive by American standards. The scenery is beautiful though. The only thing that I really didn't like about this tour is that it was supposed to start at 10am, but the tour guide waited for 30 minutes for extra people to book, which took away from shopping time at the market.
