What You Can Expect

Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Highlands Small Group Day Trip from Glasgow

Glencoe Mountains, Scotland

Meet your guide bright and early in central Glasgow for your full-day tour. Grab a comfortable seat in the luxury coach for the northbound ride toward the Glencoe, a glen of breathtaking beauty that boasts high mountain peaks, ridges, bubbling rivers and waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll pass the ‘bonnie, bonnie’ banks of Loch Lomond for some stunning views of Scotland’s largest loch.

In Glencoe, enjoy a scenic stroll to stretch your legs, and learn about the historic MacDonald clan that resided here and suffered in the brutal massacre of 1692. Afterward, hop back in the coach for to continue your journey through Great Glen and past Fort William, a key military post during the 18th-century Jacobite Rebellions.

Sidle up to the banks of Loch Ness, where the tour will break for some free time. Explore Fort Augustus, grab some lunch or take an hour-long cruise on the loch for a chance spotting of the famous Loch Ness monster (all activities at own expense).

After your lunch-time break, continue back toward Inverness and wind through Cairngorms National Park. Catch lovely views of peaks and waterfalls, and hear about the series Monarch of the Glen that was filmed here. You’ll head over Drummochter Summit and soon arrive at the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry, where you’ll have free time to explore before heading to Perthshire.

From here, begin you return trip to Glasgow, passing Stirling Castle on the way. Snap some photos of the historic site — former residence of Scottish royals including Mary, Queen of Scots — and learn about its colorful history, riddled with warfare such as the Battle of Stirling Bridge led by William Wallace.

Then relax for the return ride to Glasgow, where your 12-hour trip ends back at the starting point in the late evening.

This trip was fantastic! I loved every minute of it. Our tour guide was informative and enthusiastic and gave us choices on where to go. The scenery was beautiful and I loved stopping to enjoy the countryside or have lunch near Loch Ness. I recommend the Lock Inn. We had great sandwiches by a fireplace. My sister and I are Outlander fans and we got to go see some standing stones and Culloden. The whole trip was a blast with great memories to treasure!

Our guide and driver, Ewan, was fantastic. He knows his history and could talk and drive at the same time. Very important to us. Also because it was a small group tour we arrived and left at each location on time. Thank you to those who travelled with us for being prompt at all locations. This gave Ewan time to stop at two different photo places that were not on the tour.

The best 60 I've ever spent! Despite it being winter and snowing, hence decreasing the visibility during much of the drive, our tour guide was fabulous. I loved the small group setting, the information provided without it being information overload and allowed me to see more of Scotland in a day than I otherwise would have been able to do. I recommended it to everyone on my study abroad and the next weekend they all booked different bus tours through Scotland. Thanks so much for a great tour!

Absolutely fabulous tour! Driver/guide Shane was engaging, entertaining, and spun great stories that continued to delight at even the dullest parts of the drive. We enjoyed every bit of our trip. Loch ness should not be missed!
