Bathing with an Elephant

Your day begins with private pickup from your hotel in Goa and a short ride to the Shanti Nature Resort, located within the large jungle and wildlife sanctuary of Bhagwan Mahavir. Upon arrival, admire the charm of this quaint village designed to reflect aboriginal lifestyle.

With your guide, enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience as you hop onto the back of an elephant for a short ride to the heart of the resort! Here, a two-wheeled oxen-pulled cart will be waiting for you. Tour the resort on board this bullock cart and learn about the humble lifestyle of tribal people as you pass through a local village.

Return to the resort and enjoy a traditional Goan meal served on a banana leaf. After a satisfying lunch, follow your guide on a leisurely walk through the jungle. See the large assortment of flora and fauna and be enlightened by your guide’s interesting facts about herbal remedies the trees and spices provide. Reach the Mahadev Temple, Tambdi Surla, a Shiva temple of the lord Mahadeva dating back to the 12th century, making it the oldest temple in Goa. Admire the beautiful, intricate carvings inside the small building while learning about the structure’s purpose as a place of Hindu worship.

The most exciting part of the day is yet to come as you make your way to a nearby lake to mingle with the kings of this jungle – Goan elephants! Marvel at the wonders of nature as you watch these elephants bathe in the peaceful lake. Feed them or, better yet, join them on a refreshing swim in the lake. This is one experience not to be missed!

Amazing adventure, just like being in the 'Jungle Book'!

It was great, great fun, everything good. A bit expensive for half day. Also two details untrue: (1) no swimming with the elephants just elephant shower and (2) instead of lunch and dinner it was breakfast and lunch (which is actually better because then we had a half day free back in the hotel)
