Spetses, the Diamond of the Saronic Gulf has a rich history and an air of grandeur from days gone by. Explore the old harbour and the islands many beaches.
Known as the Saronic Gulf's Diamond, Spetses is located at the entrance of the Saronic Gulf very near the mainland of Peloponese.
The island was used as the setting for novelist John Fowles' book 'The Magus' in 1965, mainly due to the islands heat and the seductive scent of the pine trees.
Spetses retains much of the grandeur and old-world elegance of its heyday as an important shipbuilding and maritime trading centre. The main town is peppered with imposing 200 year old mansions with pebble mosaic courtyards. These were mainly built by wealthy sea captains and successful merchants many of whom made their fortunes by running the British blockade during the Napoleonic Wars.
The Spetses museum is a must see, and houses the mansion of Spetses' famous heroine, the 19th century seagoing Amazon Lascarina Bouboulina. The Old Harbour is also an engaging place to wander and admire the many fishing boats and yachts.
Spetses' coastline is speckled with numerous coves with small, pine shaded beaches to relax and soak up the rays.

Itinerary:Day 01: Athens - Spetses
Morning transfer from your Athens hotel at 8:00am to Piraeus pier for hydro embarkation, sailing to Spetses. You will be transferred to your hotel where you will receive dinner at the hotel's restaurant.
Day 02: Spetses
After breakfast at the hotel, the day is yours at leisure to explore the island of Spetses. Deriving from such a historic background the town on the island is a conglomerate of the past and the present in a unique mixture of tradition and contemporary life. Spetses is a luxurious green island, known from the antiquity as Pittioussa - the pine-Clad.
Famous for its recent History (approximately 200 years ago) by the only female Captain globally, the Heroine Lascarina Bouboulina, as well as for many other Heroic Features that are evident all around the Spetses Town. It is strongly recommended you to visit the L. Bouboulina's Museum as well as the State Museum which includes findings of the most ancient ship-wreck ever discovered.
Don't miss the lovely walk towards the Old Harbor, along the Old Captain Noble Mansions, leading to the St. Nicholas Spetses Cathedral, where the island's Captains, back in 1821 took a vow either to liberate Greece or to die.
The way to the other end of the island, towards the Anargyrios College, is equally beautiful. Walking along the beach, and enjoying the heavy shadow of the Pine-trees, just a couple of meters by the sea, will grant you with an unforgettable experience!
Day 03: Spetses
After breakfast at the hotel, another day at leisure to explore the islands of Spetses.
Day 04: Spetses - Athens
After breakfast at the hotel, the morning is yours at leisure. Early afternoon transfer to Spetses pier for embarkation on the hydrofoil to Piraeus.
