based on Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is one of the most popular natural attractions in the world. It is a natural crescent beach in the sunken caldera of extinct volcano. The bay is protected by the walls of volcanic formation and the waters are pure and clear to provide ideal environment for fish and other marine wild life. If you are lucky, you may see dolphins and turtles. The inner reef beach area is a long decent from zero to about 13 feet and perfect for children and casual snorkeling while the outside reef portion is from 13 feet to 30+ feet and good for a fun challenge for more advanced snorkeling.
The City and County of Honolulu started to take necessary steps to protect the bay and in 2002, they built the Marine Educational Center consisting of marine displays of wild life in the bay, educational video theater and other facilities.
The watching of the video is mandatory because the City and County of Honolulu tries to inform the geological and historical background of the bay and at the same time, to educate the tourists of the importance to protect Hanauma Bay.
