Experience the world of the Cu Chi freedom fighters with a visit to their famous tunnel system. This network of over 200 km of tunnels became legendary during the 1960's when they played a vital part in the American War, allowing the Viet Cong to control a large rural area close to Ho Chi Minh City. What You Can Expect
Leaving the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind, take a 2.5-hour journey west towards the Cambodian border bound for the Cu Chi Tunnels. The Cu Chi tunnels were built by local fighters during the Indochina conflict as a base from which the Viet Cong could operate from close to the Southern Vietnamese capital. Initial construction started in 1948 when the Viet Minh required somewhere to hide from French air attacks and by 1965, the Cu Chi tunnel complex was estimated to consist of 200km's of tunnels. It included, hospitals, schools, meeting rooms, kitchens and sleeping quarters. Life was difficult for the inhabitants and to protect against outside intruders bobby traps were laid throughout the complex.
Your local guide will take you on a fascinating tour around the Cu Chi Tunnels where you'll learn more about the conditions the Vietnamese people lived in, the hardships they faced and the amazing ingenuity employed to maintain life in the tunnels.
Great tour, very informative thanks to Than our guide.
The small group format was definitely the right choice as we could ask many questions to our tour guide.
It was amazing
One of the best tours to take when visiting Ho Chi Minh City. Showcases the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the Vietnamese. Our guide, Queenie, was quite knowledgeable. Located about 2 hours out of the city proper, tunnels are in the middle of a tropical rainforest. Slather on the mosquito repellent and wear comfortable clothes and shoes to be able to enjoy the interactive exhibits.
Very interesting day out, discovered many things about the innovative and resourceful VC, the way they eluded capture and eventually won that war. The various ingenious terrifying traps they built for killing and more importantly to them, maiming the Americans. Plenty of original contraptions available to view. The tunnels, even though widened for tourists, were still quite claustrophobic, though they are only a small part of the tour. You also have the option to use the firing range and let off some rounds from various guns, including M16s and AK47s. Our guide stressed there was no animosity towards the USA now, but he did seem quite proud and enthusiastic about the killing and injuring of Americans.
All in all a great educational and enjoyable day out in the jungle. Recommended.
Ms Linda was great!
Highly enjoyable tour from the beginning to the end. Our tourguide, Queenie was fabulous. She was very knowledgeable and interesting, and always willing to go the extra mile. The hour and half long journey to the tunnels were filled with lots of interesting facts and history. The tunnels itself blew me away, but what really made the trip special was the guide who brought the history and stories to life. Highly recommended.
Highly informative tour. A small group of only 12 gave us all time to ask questions if we wished. Our guide, Tam, was excellent. He had great local and historical knowledge and was extremely helpful on the tour and with giving us recommendations for other activities, places to go to, eat, shop etc for the rest of our stay in Ho Chi Minh City.
Great trip to get outside the city for a morning. We stopped at a local farm and got to spend about thirty minutes seeing how daily life on the farm is. Our tour guide Loung provided facts and kept us engaged the entire trip. The entire tunnels area has been setup for tourists and does a good job of showing the history and perspective of the Cu Chi people in the Vietnamese War. Bring 300,000vd if you want to shoot some of the old weapons at the range on the end of the tour! Great experience, would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Saigon
this was a very informative tour. Our guide Mary had a great sense of humour spoke good English and was very informative . The bus was comfortable .
I had Tham as our tour guide. She was awesome and so knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the tour and information. Really well done. I will bring my Mom next year when she comes to visit me in S.E. Asia.
