Floating Markets, Mekong Delta
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho (L)
Leave Ho Chi Minh City in the morning and travel southward to the Mekong Delta to Ben Tre. Here, you will board a local boat to explore the myriad of waterways that make up the delta. You’ll visit a coconut factory to watch how this important fruit is processed to produce coconut oil, flesh and matting. Cruise through the delta’s tributaries and stop to take a stroll along the riverbank, visiting a village that weaves mats in the traditional way. Then drive through the Mekong’s famous rice paddies, to a local temple and experience Vietnamese culture firsthand. Enjoy a three-course lunch served on board Le Jarai -- a converted rice barge, as you cruise the waterways back to Ben Tre. Afterward, you'll be driven to Can Tho for your overnight accommodation.

Day 3: Chau Doc (B)
Your third day in the Mekong Delta is all about the river. After breakfast, you’ll spend the day traveling like a local in a traditional sampan, and witness the bond that links the people of the delta to the water. Have your camera ready to photograph the colorful boats of the floating market, selling exotic fruit and vegetables. You’ll also visit a Muslim Cham village, and see this minority community’s traditional stilt houses and local mosque. Continuing along the water, you’ll visit fish farms and local homes, a floating village where you’ll see fishermen at work, and the Vinh Te Canal, completed in 1824 on the Cambodian border.
