7-Day Independent Tour: Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macau with Transport

Ferry in Hong Kong

When you arrive in Hong Kong, you’ll be taken to your Hong Kong hotel to begin your 7-day tour.

Your first sightseeing tour will take you to Victoria Peak, where you’ll admire fantastic views of skyscrapers, world-famous Victoria Harbour, Kowloon and peaceful green hillsides. Enjoy some Chinese dim sum for lunch in the traditional Aberdeen fishing village and shop for local wares at Stanley Market.

Take the train to Guangzhou for an evening Pearl River Delta cruise and a sightseeing tour of several historical and cultural attractions and landmarks such as the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Yuexiu Park and Hualin Temple.

Then, travel through the beautiful countryside, crossing rivers and passing quaint pedestrian promenades, to Macau. On your sightseeing tour, visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites including A-Ma Temple, one of the oldest and most famous Taoist temples in Macau, and the Ruins of St Paul, a 16th-century complex featuring remains of the Cathedral of St Paul.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hong Kong

When you arrive at the Hong Kong International Airport, you’ll be met by a private driver and taken to your Hong Kong hotel. Depending on your arrival flight time, you may have the opportunity to explore the charms of this bustling city on your first day. A list of recommendations of things to do and see can be found in your itinerary package.

Day 2: Hong Kong (B, L)

Following breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your hotel by coach in the morning for a comprehensive 8-hour tour of Hong Kong Island with an English-speaking guide. On your tour, take the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak and look down for amazing views of the city skyline, world-famous Victoria Harbour, Kowloon, towering skyscrapers and peaceful green hillsides.

Visit the traditional Aberdeen fishing village and enjoy lunch of Chinese dim sum at Jumbo, a floating restaurant on Aberdeen Harbour. Afterward, head to Stanley Market, a shopper’s paradise, where you can find a wide variety of souvenirs such as silk, clothing, accessories and Chinese artwork.

You’ll be dropped off at your hotel in the afternoon, and the rest of the day is yours.

Day 3: Hong Kong – Guangzhou (B, D)

After breakfast on your third day, you'll board a train and travel along the historic Kowloon/Canton Railway to Guangzhou. After a 2.5-hour journey, you’ll be taken by private vehicle to your Guangzhou hotel.

Relax and settle in or enjoy the city’s sights before taking an evening Pearl River Delta cruise, which includes a second-floor buffet dinner of both Chinese and Western cuisine. Take in the spectacular nighttime cityscape and see popular bridges like Renmin Bridge, Haizhu Bridge and Guangzhou Bridge.

Day 4: Guangzhou (B, L)

After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel in the morning for a full-day tour of Guangzhou by coach with an English-speaking guide. First, visit the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a memorial to the founding father of the Republic of China, Sun Yat-sen. Here, witness a formal changing of the guards ceremony.

Make your way to Yuexiu Park, the largest park in downtown Guangzhou, to see the Five Rams Stone sculpture, which commemorates five celestial rams that supposedly provide favorable weather and good harvest to the region. Here, you’ll also see Zhenhai Tower, a red five-story tower considered to display the best-preserved architecture in Guangzhou.

Then, discover Chinese artwork, wood carvings and pottery with a tour of the Gz Yi Yao Qi Ceramics Arts and Crafts Center and the Chen Clan Academy. In between sightseeing, enjoy lunch at one of Guangzhou’s popular restaurants. Afterward, get a dose of Chinese history with a drive to Hualin Temple, a Buddhist temple dating back almost 1,400 years!

Finally, visit Shamian Island and learn about its crucial role during the opium wars of 1850s. See colonial structures like the French Catholic Church and bronze statues that honor Western historical figures.

Day 5: Guangzhou – Macau (B)


Following breakfast and a morning at leisure, you will be picked up by your driver for a private transfer to Macau.

Traveling through the rural countryside, cross rivers and waterways of the Pearl River Delta and pass pedestrian promenades. When you arrive at your Macau hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day to explore the city at your leisure.

Day 6: Macau (B, L)

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day tour of Macau with an English-speaking guide. See evidence of Macau’s Chinese and Portuguese heritage embraced in an array of modern architecture.

Visit several UNESCO World Heritage Sites including one of the oldest and most famous Taoist temples in Macau, A-Ma Temple, built in honor of Matsu, the goddess of seafarers and fishermen. Then, visit the Ruins of St Paul, a 16th-century complex featuring remains of the Cathedral of St Paul. Walk up the 66 steps to admire the elaborate stonework of the church’s facade.

Make your way to the Fortaleza de Monte (Mt Fortress), a 15th-century military center built to protect the region’s Jesuit properties. Stop at a restaurant for lunch and then tour the Macau Museum and Macau Tower, whose observation deck provides breathtaking views of the entire city. Inside, you may choose to have dinner at any of the tower's upscale bistros (own expense).

Day 7: Macau – Hong Kong (B)

Have breakfast and enjoy free time in the morning before leaving your hotel by coach for the Macau Ferry Terminal, where you’ll board the high-speed turbo jet ferry to Hong Kong.

After your 1-hour journey, you’ll be met in the arrivals hall of the ferry terminal for a private transfer either back to your Hong Kong hotel or to the Hong Kong International Airport.
