This was a wonderful experience led by a wonderful tour guide! Everyone should go caving!
I came into this with very few expectations and found myself delighted by the experience. It was a true adventure that is not easily found many places. You find yourself crawling between rocks so close you can almost feel them on your chest and back at the same time; it was completely exhilarating. Laci (Lati?) was a phenomenal tour guide/ He was incredibly experienced and he imbued the entire tour with his energy and spirit. In fact at one point someone's headlamp died and couldn't be fixed, so he traded with them, thus being left in total darkness even while he led the tour. I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes adventure, doesn't mind getting a little dirty or small spaces.
A note about the negative reviews: they are pretty off base. Needing to take a bus to caves really shouldn't be a deal breaker. I would however recommend not having time specific plans after the tour, that way if it runs a little long you'll have no issues. (It's not a movie after all, the duration will be variable. If you're like me, you'll find yourself wishing for another hour in the caves anyways.)
We have such an awesome time in this caving tour. If you are looking for a fun, adventurous activity to do while in Budapest, I would highly recommend this. Crawling and climbing through the caves of Budapest was definitely a hight of our trip. We were in a group of about 10 people, with very helpful and knowledgable guides. There are some tight squeezes along the way, so make sure you are up to being in small spaces.
Wow, what an incredible experience that left us with some great memories. Definitely not recommended for the claustrophobic though! The truth is that anyone with a little bit of courage can complete this journey. Would definitely suggest doing this tour when in Budapest!
Caving was so amazing! I would recommend it for anyone visiting budapest, it is definitely worth it.it was a great break from touring around the city. Our guide was awesome and really helpful. It is not just a standard walk through the cave; there was so much awesome crawling, squeezing, pushing, sliding and climbing. Do it!
We had the famous Laci as our guide and he was every bit as good as the reviews. The tour was the best value for money, we felt that we were in safe hands right from the beginning. The tour had just enough to push our limitations and there was enough expertise from our excellent guid Laci to ensure our safety and fun. The equipment was first class, the caves are still in relatively untouched condition but what makes the whole tour is the fun and informative communication from Laci. We were not only on a tour but an educational experience. He was also able to seperate the rowdy young backpackers from the people genuinely interested in the historical value of the tour. There was 22 who met at the meeting point and we were separated into 3 groups of 6 which was perfect, I wore sport shorts and a t-shirt under the overalls and glad I did, it got a bit hot and sweaty down there, I had a warm change of cloths in the lockers they provided. We were ready with our two bus tickets from the beginning but many had to go and get them which wasted a lot of our time. I took my hungarian gf and she was amazed at what herbicide had to offer. I took a small video camera and it worked a treat, I was able to easily put it Into the top overall pocket. Thanks again Laci.
This tour was one of the highlights from my Budapest trip. They outfit you with a jumpsuit, helmet, and headlamp and you can leave your stuff in a locker while you're caving. Definitely recommend it!
It's not for the feant hearted. Real adventure especially for a bigbody guy like me.
We had a great time caving in Budapest. It was the highlight of our time in the city. Our guide was enthusiastic and checked with people in our group to make sure everyone was doing okay. Having a small group promoted camaraderie and support for one another. We had a little trouble locating our contact person at the city meeting spot. It would be helpful if the person meeting the group had some kind of sign or clothing that identified him as the caving contact.
We had an awesome time on this tour. It takes about 4 hours, from meeting time to the the time you get back to the meeting place, so you have to plan your day around it. The guide was very funny and helpful. This made me want to go caving again! Can be challenging at times, which makes it better.
