Reykjanes Peninsula and Gulfoss / Geysir Express

After leaving the capital, head for the Reykjanes peninsula where the Atlantic ridge rises above the ocean. The peninsula is almost completely covered with old lava flows and you will see lava combs, and craters of all different sizes and shapes, plus the infamous tectonic plates. Head for the lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula, and marvel t this area rich in bird life. See one of the world's biggest North Gannet breeding colony at Eldy Island. Hear the surf crashing and gaze at the beautiful basaltic cliffs - a simply stunning sight! From there, continue through the lava fields, to the nearby fishing village Grindavik, where you will see numerous fish processing factories. After a short stop by the Blue Lagoon, continue to Reykjavik and from there, towards the Golden Circle.

Travel to some of the most exciting phenomena Iceland has to offer. Visit Thingvellir, where the Icelandic parliament Althingi, was established in 930 and Christianity was adopted in the year 1000. Geographically is it unique as here, the tectonic plates meet, that is, America and Europe - and this is constantly moving! In August 2004, Thingvellir was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. From here, travel to view the majestic Gulfoss waterfall, the incredible spouting hot spring of Geysir and Strokkur and the immensely powerful old implosion crater, Kerid. Proceed to Hverageroi, a horticultural area where you will see how geothermal energy has been harnessed to create unique greenhouse cultivation. In these large greenhouses, various types of vegetables, exotic fruits and colourful flowers are grown. On your way back, travel through a highly mountainous region, back to the capital.
