See the Itinerary field below for a more detailed tour description.
Itinerary
Day 1: Saturday
After your arrival at the Iquitos International Airport, you will be met by a representative and taken by air-conditioned coach to the main wharf in Iquitos. At the wharf, board the luxurious Aqua river vessel, your home for the next three nights. Settle into your gorgeous suite, equipped with hot water, air-conditioning and panoramic windows that offer a 180-degree view.
Just before sunset, the Aqua starts its journey through the famous Amazon Rainforest. After a brief routine safety drill, you'll be on your way up the river! Enjoy a delicious dinner featuring authentic South American cuisine and wine. After dinner, relax on the upper deck and admire the stars.
Day 2: Sunday
Wake up early and watch the sunrise over the beautiful Amazon River. Then, start your morning off with a Peruvian breakfast before beginning your daily adventures.
Hop in a small motorboat with your expert guide and head through the Huaysi, a canal that connects the Amazon to the Tahuayo Blackwater River. You'll be provided with all necessary equipment – lifejackets, ponchos and rain boots – as you explore the Tahuayo. Keep an eye out for various wildlife, including sloths, black-collared hawks and monkeys.
When you reach Charo Lake, your guide will teach you how to fish for one of Amazonia's most fearsome fish – the piranha. Your guide will also tell you about the lake and more of its inhabitants. After fishing, head back to the Aqua and continue your journey up the Amazon River. Spend time relaxing on the luxurious deck before enjoying a light lunch in the air-conditioned dining room.
After lunch, hop back in the motorboat for a visit to Yacapana Island, home to a large population of iguanas. When you head back to the Aqua, keep your eyes open for the famous pink dolphins of the Amazon River.
Back on board, sip a pisco sour while enjoying the sunset on the upper deck before dinner.
Day 3: Monday
Start your morning with breakfast on board, and then take a guided jungle walk. Explore the Amazon Rainforest with your naturalist guide, who will teach you about the sustainable resource management projects in the Amazon. Your guide will show you artificial nests created to protect turtle eggs, and you'll come face-to-face with exotic wildlife! Learn first-hand about the importance of rainforest preservation, and see the Kapok trees, the tallest trees in the Amazon Basin.
Enjoy lunch back on the boat, followed by time to relax and take in the rainforest scenery before your next excursion. In the late afternoon, take a motorboat to see howler monkeys, tamarins and exotic birds. Keep an eye out for more pink dolphins as you glide down the Amazon. Spot several kinds of primates and more than 200 species of birds in the rainforest canopy.
As you make your way back to the Aqua at sunset, watch for caimans, tree boas, tarantulas, frogs and other nocturnal creatures.
Once back on board, enjoy an evening filled with food and relaxation.
Day 4: Tuesday
On your last day in the Amazon, rise and shine early for your last adventures! Travel along the Ucayali River to Yucuruche Lake with your guide. Admire the giant water lilies on the lake and get an up-close look at native flora and fauna. Then head back to the Aqua for your last breakfast on board the river vessel.
After breakfast, board the motorboat for a ride along the edges of the 5-million-acre (2-million-hectare) Pacaya-Samiria Reserve. Here, the Ucayali and Maranon rivers unite to form one of the world's greatest waterways. See many birds, including falcons and different types of parakeets, while traveling to the village of Puerto Prado, where you can learn about the village’s local customs from its native inhabitants.
Head back to the Aqua for lunch before disembarking the boat to make your way to the airport. On the way, make a stop at the Manatee Rescue Center, where you can see what marine biologists are doing to help preserve these endangered animals. You'll then be transported to the Iquitos International Airport.
To best fit this itinerary into your Peru travel plans, it is highly recommended that you take LAN flight 2283 back to Lima.
