What a terrific was to get into a city. Guide fantastic and such a great variety pack into one night. A must do.
Sharp, well-informed, spunky guide took me to a variety of food and historical places. Lots of walking involved along uneven pavement... so if you're not comfortable walking briskly on cobblestones you should give this a pass. Otherwise, I highly recommend this fun and informative tour.
We booked this for our first night in Istanbul, hoping it would be a good way to familiarize ourselves with the city while also taking care of dinner. The tour accomplished both objectives, and then some!
It was so much more fun than we had expected. Our guide Selma did a great job of making the evening enjoyable for us and the other couple on the tour.
In addition to getting a tour of the Beyoglu nightlife, we got a tile game lesson in a traditional tea house, a charcoal grilled kebab on a hidden rooftop terrace, kokorec with hot peppers, melons and fresh cheese as we were serenaded with live gypsy music, and topped off the evening with tripe soup at a streetside table.
The food was great, but what made the tour special was the experiences. I don't think we could have found some of these places and experiences on our own, especially not the first night.
I highly recommend this tour.
This was a fun way to be introduced to Istanbul and a great wait to experience some new culinary delights in a new city. The guide was very dedicated, professional and was proud to share her culture. Will definitely recommend to others. Great job!
The guide was very knowledgeable. Excellent English and a very fun evening. A must do.
This tour was a great oportunity to get to know more about Turkish cuisine and try a few things out. We were taken to a few hidden spots where there were mainly locals, which we really enjoyed. We also had some Turkish coffee and the typical liquor, raki. The live music was great too, very authentic!
Interesting tour and we did see and experience bits of Istanbul that we would not otherwise have done. Tour was not exactly as published ie we did not cook our kebabs on ockabashi but we would recommend it and have gone on to eat lots more of the cheese we tried.
This was more a fun night out with a local than a gourmet food tour. But it was definitely worth it! The food was tasty and plentiful, the guide fun, and the activities interesting.
Enjoyed the company of the friendly guide but would have liked to learn more about Toukish food, maybe see preparation or cooking. Playing a tile game seemed to waste time, the cheese plate was nothing special and we didn,t have dessert.
On a positive note, the tour encouraged us to find restaurants off the main roads.
Ended early. Guide did not eat all the food herself. Not as much information about food and culture as I've experienced in other food tours. Too expensive for what you get.
Tour guide was pretty good, the food was crud, the worst food we ate while in Turkey! Fun night if I were looking for a party. Killed us walking by so many delicious looking places and just passing them up. This tour is not as it seems, please do not book this!
This is supposedly a food tour but frankly I didn't like the food at all, I went and tried much better grills on my own. It was clear that we went to cheap places to maximize profit from what we paid. I paid around 95$ for this tour and the food we took clearly didn't cost more than 10$. I understand that we wanted to know the culture as well but come on we should have seen some good food too.
The tour guide on the other hand "Selma" was very good and we really enjoyed her company.
I wouldn't recommend this tour unless the organizers consider more decent food places.
