Burak was passionate and knowledgeable about Troy. As the area is 5 hours drive from Istanbul, despite the wonderful Turkish countryside view, it is perhaps better if you combine the visit with a tour to Gallipoli.
It was well worth the long bus trip from Istanbul to Gallipoli and another 40 minutes ferry ride to Troy. Turkey is beautiful, blue sky and great food. Everyone should try it!
A long day but well worth it. The tour guide was very informative and the site itself was very interesting.
This tour was fantastic! The tour guide was very knowledgeable. He made the tour seem to "come alive". He put the facts into a context that made it all understandable and fascinating. At first, I thought that the bus ride to and from Troy would seem too long, but it did not. We had breaks for coffee/snacks, for lunch and for dinner. Plus the ride with the view of the sea to the side was lovely. This is a great tour and I have already encouraged my friends to include it when they visit Turkey.
Tour guide extremely informative. It was well worth the very long trip to see Troy. Definitely recommend it!
We were the only 2 on the Troy tour for the day, so we were combined with the Gallipoli tourers, for the
ride from Istanbul to Eceabat. The handoff to the ferry and the guide waiting in Canakkale was flawless, and
the whole experience was very good. It's a long day from Istanbul but Troy is worth it. I would certainly recommend Viator to friends.
Our guide in Troy- Barista- was great! It's a long day for a short visit just so you know. But it's great to cross with the ferry to say you did it!!
I really enjoyed most of it. I thought the tour guide was very good with information and did well in keeping my interest. However, there was a problem once we got off the ferry in the first leg of our trip. The guide for Troy wasn't there to meet us at the ferry port and we looked around for about 15 minutes in the area, thinking that we'd missed him. If I'd been alone, I'd have panicked. In future, detailed instructions will be needed to given to know what to do and where to meet the guide, including a specific spot at the ferry terminal to meet.
Very good trip. Long drive but was not bad at all. At the end of the day it all worth it after you get to spend time in the City of Troy. The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The lunch was great. We had a great time. Would recommend it. Prepare to spend about 14 hours for this trip.
one could have spent more time at the ruins rather than the alloted one hour
Troy is a fascinating place, especially if you love history. You will be walking in the midst of 5 thousand years of history. However, the place is still underdeveloped for tourism and the drive is extremely long. 4 hours each way. If this tour was combined with something else, it might be worth the drive, but in my opinion, the drive was too long.
Advantages: 1) tasty vegetarian option 2) one time pick up from the hotel and the biggest advantage was the tour director! He was friendly, natural in his conversations with the tour group, and seemed to really care we got the most out of our day!
Disadvantages: 1) Most of the trip from Istanbul is in the comfortable tour van so it was suggested to book the overnight stay in order to see both Troy and Gallipoli. 2) Non-vegetarian options for the lunch was poor quality. The "seafood" option are just bony, tiny fish although the restaurant has a variety of other seafood to cook.3) Unfriendly service at the restaurant 4) Staying at the Gallipoli side rather than the Troy side ferry stop where there are better and more numerous choices for eating and souvenir shopping 5) The tour van to Troy from the ferry had poor A/C and flies inside. 6) The WORST part was the tour "guide" lady who picked us up from our Troy van to take the ferry back to meet up with the tour group that went to Gallipoli (in order to head back to Istanbul). She did not speak English well and she was really disorganized. A lot of the other Troy tour group members were confused and frustrated with her.
So weigh the advantages and disadvantages...and make the correct choice and skip this day trip to Troy from Istanbul!
It was worth visiting Troy but the time on the tour could have been better spent. The day started at 6am and finished for me at 1030pm out of which less than an hour was spent at the site. The rest of the time was spent travelling to the site 6 hours there and 6 hours back. The tour guide did try to fill the time by short lectures on Turkey but more on Troy and the local area itself would have been helpful. Lunch was included but we had to pay for drinks and dinner on the way back.
