What a fabulous visit to Troy! The bus picked us up from our hotel on time, was very comfortable and the guide made time pass quickly. The lunch was delicious. Troy was spectacular though it really helped to have researched the site before visiting to make sense of the different levels. I've read about Hector, Achilles, Menelaus, Priam, Agamemnon and all the others from the Iliad and Odyssey all my life how amazing to see Troy and bring them to life! Only criticism is I wish our guide at Troy would have linked areas of the site to specific parts of the myth. I would definitely take other tours with Viator.
Incredible tour, a little long if you only go for the day but well worth it. Would say to go early 2016 as they are currently building a huge meseum and are beginning to excavate again next year.
Such lovely tour guides too!
The tour took 14 hours with about 1.5 or 2 hours at Troy. It was well worth it. The minibus was spacious and comfortable. The tour guide to troy picked us up before we boarded the ferry and brought us back to the minibus after the visit in Troy. The tour guide to Troy knew a lot about the dfferent archeological opinions concerning Troy, which was interesting and informative.
I had an amazing guide and an amazing trip. The guide was well versed and very knowledgeable about the topic at hand. A heads up though, it is a long drive to get there, and in the winter it does get very cold.
This your was very well organized and guide was fantastic. The driver was very good and very enjoyable.
The tour was very good. It is a long day, because Troy is a long way from Istanbul, but it was well worth the effort!
Amazing trip to do if you have the time! It is a long trip from Istanbul, but as long as you are used to this kind of quick trips, it should be OK! The tour guide at Troy was simple awesome: Super passionate for the history of the place and this can easily be absorbed by the people participating on it
Our tour guide in Troy was excellent and we learned so much about the ancient city of Troy. Much of the beauty and fun took place on the ferry ride to Troy.
Great tour. The tour guide for the walk through Troy was very knowledgeable and made the long journey very interesting. Visiting Troy was a magical experience for me and I really recommend to everyone.
Overall excellent. Well organized by the tour company. An excellent driver along with an excellent tour guide for the day. As usual an early start and a late finish but well worth it. To walk on the same ground as written by Homer was emotional. My initial preconceptions of what the site may look like after thousands of years was blown away by the amount of Troy 6 that remains. It was a match for any antiquity that resides within the Mediterranean area.
A long trip but well worth it mainly because you could see the actual location of where Troy was, so a better idea of its history. The Turkish countryside was beautiful.
The tour guide for the walk through Troy was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the ride from Istanbul seeing the coastline and some surrounding land. Breakfast and lunch was very good. Our tour guide Keynan(?) was very pleasant and friendly. I would recommend this tour to others. Also, thanks for the rainbow on the way home!!
This is an amazing tour. Breakfast and lunch included. Our tour guide was very informative about the site and will be joining the next site excavation. Please view this site with a tour guide because you will need to understand the historical artifacts that you are witnessing.
Burak was passionate and knowledgeable about Troy. As the area is 5 hours drive from Istanbul, despite the wonderful Turkish countryside view, it is perhaps better if you combine the visit with a tour to Gallipoli.
It was well worth the long bus trip from Istanbul to Gallipoli and another 40 minutes ferry ride to Troy. Turkey is beautiful, blue sky and great food. Everyone should try it!
A long day but well worth it. The tour guide was very informative and the site itself was very interesting.
This tour was fantastic! The tour guide was very knowledgeable. He made the tour seem to "come alive". He put the facts into a context that made it all understandable and fascinating. At first, I thought that the bus ride to and from Troy would seem too long, but it did not. We had breaks for coffee/snacks, for lunch and for dinner. Plus the ride with the view of the sea to the side was lovely. This is a great tour and I have already encouraged my friends to include it when they visit Turkey.
We really enjoyed this trip. However, it is a LONG DAY. At least ive hours drive there, then a short stay at the site, then five hours back. Or much more, depending on traffic in Istanbul the trip says you are back by 10 pm or so, but realistically, some groups in the days prior did not get back until 2:00 am! We were back by 11:30 pm. My husband and I are history buffs so this tour was like a dream come true. I will say this you have to REALLY like history for this tour to be worth it to you. There is not much to see, as the ruins don't cover a large area and they are not particularly well preserved by time. But my god, the history of the place!!! If you want to learn about Troy and this holds a special fascination for you, by all means do this. The interpretative signs there are good, to help you understand what you are looking at. Otherwise, this might be too long of a day trip from Istanbul to be enjoyable for you. That being said, the bus was comfortable and the provided lunch was very good. Overall a great day for us.
It was a very good tour. Of course, as expected from seeing other reviews it does make for a long day. We were picked up about 6:45 AM and did not make it back to the hotel until past 8:00 PM. So most of the day is spent driving there and back. We spent about hour and a half at the site, a little over hour at the actual site and about 30 minutes for bathroom break, taking pictures with and in the wooden horse and shopping for some souvenirs. That might not be enough for some, but for us that was good enough. We also got lucky and it started raining heavily right after we finished. The tour guide was knowledgeable and provided some good information to us.
