I am very glad I was not a gladiator, those helmets are way to heavy. But it was fun, and if you love the movie Gladiator and thought you could win some of those fights, you had better do this if you're in Rome.

We had a great time learning the basics of gladiator training and fighting; coached by a very charming, pretty and knowledgeable 'lady gladiator'.

Four stars all the way! This is a wonderful activity for the entire family. Our group ranged in age from 6 to 61. Everyone had a great time. This activity is the one we have talked about the most since we returned home. It was a highlight of our vacation! We would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This is a must-do...great pictures and even better memories. We had a great time; my 12-year-old daughter, my 8-year-old son and I just could not stop talking about it, it was so fun. The teacher was great!! The place is hard to find; a GPS only takes you to the main street. It is at the very end of a street off the main street. Make a right...it looks like a private drive with small businesses to the right and left. Oh, just like the other reviews say, give yourself some time to get there. We were late, but the teacher was perfect and gave us the royal treatment!!! Thank you!!

I loved it! I like that it was out of the way and not a typical tourist thing to do. In fact, the locals at our hotel and the taxi driver were not familiar with it. I liked how interactive it was, it's not like any other vacation activity I've done. I've already told several people about it. I had a lot of fun.

A truly excellent day of fun! Our legs really ached afterwards; they worked us quite hard, but we were given lots of drinks and snacks we were even given an Italian easter egg to eat and little cakes to take away. The leader's English was superb, as was his instruction.

It was a little hard to find as there appear to be two 18 Via Appia Anticas! For reference, it is not the one that has a door on the road with a museum sign; you have to go down a dusty track, which is opposite a bus stop.

If you have seen a lot of Rome already and want to do something a bit different and active, learn to be a gladiator!

It was a great work out, and a really nice break from all the museums. As far as getting there, we took a cab, then you have to walk down to the end of the dirt road and it is on the right hand side. After the lesson, we took a bus back to the Colosseum.

Gladiator training was the best activity of our trip! My advice is to take a taxi! We searched for 2 hours for the location! Finally we paid a taxi to lead us there! It was 100 worth the effort though!

This was my son's favourite thing on our entire Round the World trip. The guides spoke good English and were a wealth of historical knowledge. Difficult to find, get a taxi.

Reviewed by: Christopher N, Australia, February 2008 Note from Viator: Gladiator School is a stone's throw outside the ancient walls of Rome, and 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) from the Colosseum. In the spirit of easy access - we suggest taking a taxi (approx. 10-15 euros) to access the school. If you prefer public transport take the Metro (Line B), get off at OSTIENSE and take Bus No. 118 or Metro (Line A), get off at stop SAN GIOVANNI and take Bus No. 218. The school is located at Appia Antica 18, 00179, Rome.

I booked it as a surprise for my partner on his 30th birthday. The historian there showed us round the small museum and gave us some background info. We were the only ones there so he got the full attention of the gladiator expert. A fantastic 2 hours. It was nice to do something different and take a break from the site seeing. Loved it!!

This was great fun. Location wasn't good but none the less we had a great experience and we will definitely remember it in years to come.

Reviewed by: Jonathan B, United Kingdom, January 2008 Note from Viator: Hello Jonathan, and thanks for your feedback! We posted a map (click View Map) so future Viator travelers see the Gladiator School of Rome location. Yes, you're right Scuola Gladiatori Roma is situated between a bus garage along a small, pot-holed dirt road on Via Appia Antica. This is one of the most famous of roads, the Ancient Appian Way, connected Rome to other towns and was the chief highway to Greece and the East. So, the school is surrounded by history. It's definitely safe to visit and we're thrilled that you enjoyed the lessons.

If you want to learn more about the location, we suggest taking the fascinating Catacombs and Roman Countryside Tour, which will introduce you to the ancient tunnels of Rome's catacombs and of course the rustic Appian Way.

It was bit hard to find but once there I had a great time. The instructor was very knowledgeable and experienced. Definitely worth doing if you are a fan of Roman history and Gladiator fighting.
