What You Can Expect

Grand Teton Small-Group Wildlife Safari by Jeep

Safari Truck

From Teton Village near Jackson Hole, hop in an all-terrain, safari-style jeep for a journey out on the rugged terrain of Grand Teton National Park. From the comfortable seat of your open-air jeep, gaze up at the craggy summit of Grand Teton — the tallest mountain in the park — all the while feeling the wind in your hair as you journey out towards the woods. In the fall and winter, when the temperature drops, tours take place in a safari style vehicle that’s enclosed for comfort and warmth, and these small group tours have only 9 passengers in summer, and 10 passengers in winter.

During this Grand Teton wildlife tour, you’ll scour a part of the 330,000 acres (133,546 hectares) that comprise the national park. Scan the landscape for the 60 species of mammals that live in the park, and keep an eye out overhead for over 300 species of birds. With binoculars provided by your local guide, try to spot elk, bears, bison, deer, moose, or wolves, and keep a lookout for ospreys, owls, hawks, and soaring bald eagles.

Aside from the wealth of wildlife, you’ll also experience the Snake River scenery as backed by the jagged mountains, and your guide will explain the geology and ecology before returning to Teton Village.

Note: Summer tours run from June 15 to August 31, and fall/winter tours are September 1 to June 14. Hotel pickup in the Jackson Hole area is available upon request.

Dwayne was our guide and could spot animals like nobody's business. Spotted a bald eagle in a tree on the river from the road that no one else could see. Always got the scope out to make the viewing easier. Used this cell phone to take photos through the scope and shared them with the group. Very knowledgable about the area and animals and told great stories. We saw a bear fairly close to the road and he was very conscious of the safety of the group. A great four hours.

We didn't use the open jeep maybe due to the weather, it was snowing lightly in the morning. We love the tour guide, he was very friendly, knowledgeable and had sharp eyes to spot the wildlife. We saw bisons, elks, several birds that I forgot the name, pronghorns, mooses. He tried very hard to look for bears unfortunately we didn't see any at that time. We did see the bear finally on the next day during our Yellowstone tour. The tour guide even taught us very useful skill: to take pictures using your binoculars with your iphone. Really recommend this tour to anyone who are interested to explore Grand Teton!
