What You Can Expect

4-Day Kruger National Park Safari Tour from Johannesburg: Game Drives and Wilderness Walks

Kruger National Park

Day 1: Johannesburg – Kruger National Park (L, D)
Leave Johannesburg early and depart by air-conditioned minivan to the heart of Kruger National Park, Africa’s vast game reserve, covering a region roughly the size of Wales or Rhode Island! After a journey of approximately four hours, arrive in Kruger’s southern region at a safari base camp. After freshening up, sit down to a delicious lunch and eat in the great outdoors.

See your first sights of Kruger’s legendary wildlife during an afternoon walking tour, led by your ranger guide. Following the park’s wilderness trails, watch animals ambling down to the waterhole and see birdlife in abundance before setting off on the day’s final activity – an evening game drive around the reserve. Return to camp for a relaxing dinner, served outside under the starry African night sky.

Overnight: Tsakane Safari Camp in Balule region of Kruger National Park

Days 2 and 3: Kruger National Park (B, L, D)

Both days follow the same itinerary.

Enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful dawn while eating breakfast, and then head out with your ranger guide on a morning safari walk. Deciphering tracks and signs left by passing animals in the night, you’ll follow a leisurely route to see the animals that Kruger National Park is so rightly famous for. Besides the impressive members of the Big Five (African elephants, Cape buffalos, leopards, lions and rhinos), keep an eye out for giraffes, hippos, springboks, zebras and more! Return to camp for a light lunch and free time to relax at your leisure. Perhaps beat the midday heat by lounging around the camp’s swimming pool with other members of your group.

In the afternoon, take another walk around the park’s wilderness trails and then enjoy a game drive that will take you even closer to the wildlife-rich spots around the reserve. Learn about the animals that make up the Big Five and take photos of these incredible creatures in their natural habitats.

Evening drinks are available for you to purchase back at camp, so relax with drink in hand and watch the sun set over the park. Tuck into a hearty dinner and spend the evening relaxing at leisure by the warm camp fire or resting up in your room.

Overnight: Tsakane Safari Camp in Balule region of Kruger National Park

Day 4: Kruger National Park – Johannesburg (B)

Set out early on your last day for one last walk and game drive around the park, looking out for tracks you might recognize and watching the wildlife wake up. Back at camp, sit down for breakfast with your group, and then board your minivan for your comfortable journey back to Johannesburg. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel in the late afternoon.

5 star rating: Highly Recommended March 2016

Stayed at the Green Fire Lodge is why this gets 5 stars.
Technically not Kruger, but Greater Kruger. No fences in between, so animals can wander in between, but just be advised. I would 100 still book this.
Green Fire is brand new, rebuilt in 2012, so the entire lodge is GREAT! Amazing staff, amazing food! Also, they don't take their safari vehicles off the roads/paths a big plus! as they are not damaging or killing trees or small wildlife or actively chasing animals through the bush. I loved seeing the animals more naturally and not being chased. Didn't miss anything from this.

Book this, especially if you can select Green Fire!

5 star rating: Highly Recommended May 2014

This Tour was sensational although with travel time, 4 days is hardly enough. We stayed an extra 2. Our accommodation was not with the stated lodge but rather with Drifters Game Lodge. Lucky us! because we were spoiled rotten by a gorgeous couple Adrian and Kim. The resort is spectacular as well. Almost new with beautiful individual bungalows with ensuites, overlooking an amazing wide sandy riverbed. at times we had heards of Elephants meandering past along with the occasional Rhino or Water Buffalo. The food here was 5 star as well passionately prepared by James. They even baked me a birthday cake! Prices for drinks was very reasonable and R50 ($5) took care of the washing. As for the Safaris, their resident guide and tracker Karl showed his skills in hunting us down the 'big 5' plus a host of other animals and birds. I can thoroughly recommend this tour but strongly suggest you request to stay at Drifters Game Lodge
