Overnight: 3-star A’Zambezi River Lodge, 4-star Victoria Falls Safari Lodge or 5-star Victoria Falls Hotel
Day 2: Victoria Falls (B)
Enjoy breakfast and then head out with your guide on a tour of the incredible Victoria Falls. Listed as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the waterfall also takes the name of Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning ‘smoke that thunders’ in Kololo, referencing the spectacular mist that forms around its crashing waters.
Explore the pretty rainforest trails surrounding the falls with your guide, enjoying captivating views of the Zambezi River’s ferocious torrents plunging down a series of basalt gorges. Taking into account width and height (roughly 1.2 miles (2km) wide and 360 feet (108m) high), Victoria Falls is the world’s largest waterfall, and as you come face-to-face with it, with the water pounding in your ears and the spray rising before your eyes, you’ll certainly understand the name ‘smoke that thunders!’ While ambling along the trails, watch out for Livingstone’s Statue that looks out over the Devil’s Cataract – a natural pool that marks the lowest point of the falls.
Take a break for lunch in Victoria Falls village (own expense), meet your guide in the late afternoon for a cruise down Zambezi River. Sit back and relax with a drink (own expense), watching the beautiful African sunset. Sightings of wild animals are common, so watch out for hippos, birds and even elephants that may come down to the riverbanks. After seeing the sun go down, your guide will drop you back at your hotel. Spend your evening at leisure.
Overnight: 3-star A’Zambezi River Lodge, 4-star Victoria Falls Safari Lodge or 5-star Victoria Falls Hotel
Day 3: Victoria Falls – Kasane (B, D)
After breakfast, leave your hotel by minibus and travel southwest to Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. After a journey of roughly two hours, arrive in this spectacular park -- home to the largest concentration of game in Africa. Covering nearly 4,500 square miles (11,700 square km), the park encompasses vast swathes of floodplains, grasslands and swamps that are home to an unparalleled array of wildlife.
Your guide will drop you at your accommodation in the village of Kasane, and then you’ll have the rest of your day at leisure to explore and relax. Dine in your hotel in the evening.
Overnight: 3-star Chobe Safari Lodge, 4-star Chobe Game Lodge or 5-star Chobe Chilwero Lodge
Day 4: Chobe National Park (B, D)
Relax over breakfast in your hotel, and then your guide will pick you up for a morning game drive around Chobe National Park. Home to the entire Big Five (African elephants, Cape buffalos, lions, leopards and rhinos), the park is perhaps most famous for its large concentration of elephants and hippos. Watch out for these incredible animals from the safety of your open-roof game vehicle – driven by a park ranger.
After lunch (own expense) at a café in the park, your guide will take you to Chobe River for a cruise. From your pontoon boat, see hippos and crocodiles jostling for space at the water’s edge, and enjoy magnificent views as the sun starts to set. After the cruise your guide will drop you back at your hotel in time for dinner.
Overnight: 3-star Chobe Safari Lodge, 4-star Chobe Game Lodge or 5-star Chobe Chilwero Lodge
Day 5: Kasane -- Victoria Falls – Johannesburg (B)
Relax over a leisurely breakfast and then check out of your hotel. Your guide will pick you up and transfer you to Victoria Falls Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.
