What You Can Expect

Johannesburg Super Saver: Soweto Sightseeing Tour plus Johannesburg Sightseeing Tour

Hector Peterson Memorial in Soweto

Soweto Tour (Morning)
Begin your Johannesburg Super Saver tour day with a pickup from your hotel in either Rosebank or Sandton, then settle into the vehicle for the drive to Soweto. This township is so large it’s really its own city, and it’s steeped in history.

Pass important sites in South African history, including the Hector Peterson Memorial, which honors one of the first of the more than 500 who died in the 1976 Soweto Uprising. See the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the biggest hospital in the world. Drive by two notable homes that once belonged to two Nobel Peace Prize winners — Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

Along the way, learn about Soweto’s modern image as a cultural trendsetter. Climb back into the vehicle for the next sightseeing tour of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg (Afternoon)
Drive through the historic center of Johannesburg, where you’ll see some of the city’s most recognized skyscrapers — including the Hillbrow Tower and Post Office Tower.

Outside the tallest skyscraper on the entire continent, Carlton Centre, disembark from the vehicle to go all the way up to the 50th floor observation deck for incredible views over the city. Enjoy a bit of free time on the 50th floor, then return to the vehicle to continue sightseeing.

Drive past the sights at Constitution Hill, including the Old Fort Prison Complex where Nelson Mandela was once imprisoned, and the new constitutional court. See the Nelson Mandela Bridge and the building housing the country’s Supreme Court. Pass through the wealthy neighborhood of Houghton as you head for the last stop — time permitting — at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens at Emmerentia Dam. Enjoy some free time to explore the gardens before getting back into the vehicle for the return trip to your hotel.

Please note: This tour requires a minimum of two people per booking.

Our guide was very knowledgeable regarding the complex history of Johannesburg, both colonial and recent. We learned much that has bearing on South Africa's current economy and politics.

Definitely worth doing. Informative and varied between the different locations. Our guide, remaining in character, was fun and educational. The tour was a real eye-opener on Mandela's life and times. Just do it!

We received excellent personalised service from Henni who was personable, friendly and likeable.
We received a pleasant surprise when we met him at Hilton Sandton at exactly the specified time. He advised that he was our personal guide for the day, just the 2 of us.
The trip was excellent in terms of timings and coverage. We enjoyed the Soweto visit after Liliesleaf. Yes, we had read the history but until you visit you have no real understanding. Henni added to our trip and perspective with insightful direct commentary. We found the tour of Constitution Hill personally challenging and it is hard to understand these atrocities only 40 plus years ago. We then also enjoyed the visit to the Church and its symbolism. The drive through Johannesburg and the gold Museum and then the visit to the high rise building was worthwhile.
The tour and guide were both excellent and good value. We were staying / visiting with good friends in Sandton but this tour added great detail and exposure to our visit. Can only highly recommend our guide Henni. He was first class as a guide and also in explaining and presenting a balanced view.
A very good decision even for very experienced travellers to use this guide and the tours were first class.
