What You Can Expect
Start your day with a pickup from your Sandton or Rosebank hotel, then relax on the journey to Soweto. The most metropolitan township in the country, Soweto sets trends in politics, fashion, music, dance and language.
Drive past two former Nobel Prize winners’ previous residence. Then, see the Hector Peterson memorial; dedicated to one of the first casualties of the Soweto uprising of June 16, 1976, when more than 500 people were killed. You'll also see the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in the world.
Hop back aboard your air-conditioned coach to begin your next tour. Gaze out at the historical buildings of downtown Johannesburg that dominate this bustling city. Your guide will point out the must-see Hillbrow Tower that juts out over the city's skyscrapers, as well as the iconic Post Office Tower.
Stop outside Africa’s tallest skyscraper, the Carlton Centre, and walk up to the 50th floor observation deck with your guide to see sweeping panoramas of the entire city. After walking around the viewing platform at your leisure, return to your coach to continue seeing the sights.
Continue on to Constitution Hill next, passing by the Supreme Court and the famous Nelson Mandela Bridge in Newtown, said to symbolize Mandela’s role in bridging the apartheid divide. As you drive around Constitution Hill, listen to your guide explain some of the fascinating history that this National Heritage site has witnessed throughout the years. Learn about South Africa’s turbulent past and its slow yet steady transition to democracy.
Pass the new constitutional court and the historic site of Johannesburg’s Old Fort Prison Complex, where Nelson Mandela was famously the only black prisoner to be held here. Your tour winds back through the affluent neighborhood of Houghton, passing lavish homes and leafy streets.
If time permits, enjoy a final stop at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens at Emmerentia Dam. Spend time here at leisure, wandering amid the African herb garden and strolling along the tranquil lawns.
Your tour then ends with a drop-off back at your Johannesburg hotel.

Excellent . Very Knowledgeable Tour Leader, again No Water Provided
Definitely worth doing. Informative and varied between the different locations. Our guide, remaining in character, was fun and educational. The tour was a real eye-opener on Mandela's life and times. Just do it!
Lots to learn, see about history and educational tour...Plus Tour guide was very friendly, polite, and well known of the places around.
Absolutely amazing tour guide, very informative and funny. We learnt so much on this tour, well worth doing!
We received excellent personalised service from Henni who was personable, friendly and likeable.
We received a pleasant surprise when we met him at Hilton Sandton at exactly the specified time. He advised that he was our personal guide for the day, just the 2 of us.
The trip was excellent in terms of timings and coverage. We enjoyed the Soweto visit after Liliesleaf. Yes, we had read the history but until you visit you have no real understanding. Henni added to our trip and perspective with insightful direct commentary. We found the tour of Constitution Hill personally challenging and it is hard to understand these atrocities only 40 plus years ago. We then also enjoyed the visit to the Church and its symbolism. The drive through Johannesburg and the gold Museum and then the visit to the high rise building was worthwhile.
The tour and guide were both excellent and good value. We were staying / visiting with good friends in Sandton but this tour added great detail and exposure to our visit. Can only highly recommend our guide Henni. He was first class as a guide and also in explaining and presenting a balanced view.
A very good decision even for very experienced travellers to use this guide and the tours were first class.
Great day, great driver/guide recommend it
Very interesting culture and history of the metropolitan area. Hennie is a very knowledgeable tour guide.

Lunch in Soweto and visit to city observation tower excellent.
Me and my family really enjoyed this full day tour. Lots of information from a very knowledgable guide and not too rushed despite the many sights visited. Excellent way to see Johannesburg.
