Great tour. Whale watching has been the high point of our trip so far! Thank you Captain Steve, Captain Dirk and Chelsea!
Wow, Rachel and the capt were amazing! Super friendly and knowledgeable! We saw 11 humpback whales bubble netting 10 feet from our boat, what else could u ask for. Can't recommend them highly enough. This tour was an amazing once in a lifetime experience.
Took a cruise ship scheduled tour to the same area last year. This tour was much better. A comfortable, newer boat that took us right out to the many whales in the area. We all had ample deck area to observe and take pics from. This was my favorite tour, to date.
Very well done! Very well done at a very reasonable price. Tour afforded me the flexibility to spend as much time at Mendenhall Glacier as you wanted.. Well run and excellent Guides, drivers staff. Not that it happens on each tour, but on our whale watching cruise we were privileged to witness 2 "bubble ups" thanks to our "Juneau Whale Watch" Captain.who got us to the action! What an amazing memory and photo op!
My wife, Julie, and I were both thrilled with this tour. From the very beginning to the very end there was a great degree of personalized service and congenial conversation. Ben the bus driver was a native Tlingit and delighted us by stopping along the route so we could have a photo op of dozens of salmon entering a stream to spawn. While we were there, a Bald Eagle came to rest atop a nearby tree. Then we spent a couple of hours walking around the Tongas National Forrest enjoying the sights of the Mendenhall Glacier and the nearby waterfall. The next shuttle driver, Donald drove us out to the docks were we saw 30-40 bald eagles scavenging on the shore looking more like a flock of buzzards than eagles. Then the boat captain, Ken, took us out to view the whales - holy cow batman! We were nearly on top of them, he had to work hard to maintain the proximity rules as the whales kept coming right toward us as they used the bubble net fishing technique. Our on-board biologitst, Michelle, explained the process and was a fount of fun trivia about not only the humpbacks we saw but also the harbor seals and the stellar sea lions. We could not have been more pleased. The weather was perfect, the wildlife was spectacular and the staff was exceptional. We even got a bonus, on the way from the glacier to the doc, we got to see a black bear crossing a field, right near the Walmart - definitely inside the city limits of Juneau. It was an experience that will last a lifetime.
This tour was very fascinating because everyday is a new adventure. Whale watching was very personal and supportive interaction was positive. All the drivers had a very honoring role with the established community which made it positive. Nature has so many amazing features and the Juneau shore excursion staff assisted our party with humor and sparking delights. I would give it a 5 star.
Wonderful excursion! The guides were great and very informative.
Are Juno and the whale watching tour was excellent captain TJ and the rest of the crew were great the city tour showed us things we would have never been able to see within the limited amount of time we had and we appreciate everybody you made a great day.
Overall the tour was excellent, but wish the communication was better between the company and customers. We were dropped off at Mendenhall glacier and told look for a grey bus at this time. I would have liked a little more info about the transfer to the whale watching, but we worked it out.
Great tour excursion in Juneau! We were given a good amount of time at Mendenhall Glacier, not enough for the long hike to the waterfall (2 miles), but enough time to explore the visitor center and scenic overlook area. The ticket does not cover the entrance fee into the visitor center, but the gift shop and restrooms are available to all, even without the ticket to the park visitor center. The whale watching was excellent. We had a great day and saw orcas from a distance and three humpbacks around 20-30 feet from our boat. The boat was loaded with a full group, but did not seem crowded. The folks at Juneau Whale Watching were very pleasant to talk to and great with giving information and answering questions. The city tour was more of detailing the highlights along our path to Mendenhall Glacier and the marine, but that was fine, since we were more interested in the other parts of our excursion.
This was one, if not the high light of our trip. The tour guides were so informative and took us to the greatest spots to see the whales and sea lions. The glacier was fabulous and we enjoyed our time walking thru the museum. We got to see Dall Sheep with babies on the mountain side. Our guided city tour was so informative. We learned so much about that great town that we would not have learned on our own. Thanks for a wonderful memory filled day.
It was wonderful! No complaints here! A great time was had by everyone in my family!!
Our group of 4 took this excursion July 8th, 2014. We had an excellent experience with lots of whales and whale breachings, eagles galore, and gorgeous scenery! We booked this tour after reading very positive comments and very reasonable pricing. Our curiae ship also offered the same tour (double the cost), however the boat they take out hold 300 people as opposed to this boat that hold 25. This made it easy to maneuver around and everyone had a spot to take pictures. Our captain and mate were knowable and very friendly and took great care that we had an excellent tour. Highly recommend.
My family of four took this tour. We were very pleased. The city tour was nothing special but our driver did give us some interesting info about Juneau. The glacier tour was really a self-guided tour. We really enjoyed seeing the glacier /waterfall. The actual whale-watching event was a lot of fun. We had a great crew. We got close to many whales. We also saw bubble net (When many whales come up at one time), a baby/mother whale and sea lions up close. The boat had about 60 people on it...but once we got to our destination it we could move around. There was an inside cabin and then we could go outside on an upper deck. It was pretty cold (even in July) so it was nice to be able to go inside every once in a while. I would definitely recommend this tour.
It was amazing! Captain Dirk and Christian were friendly and knowledgeable of the wildlife and Juneau. The bald eagles, sea lions and whales were close to the boat. Mendenhall Glacier and the waterfall were breath taking. Take a jacket and scarf it was chilly. Boat for whale watch has closed area for viewing to stay out of cold but did not obscure views. Snack and drink were provided. Our city tour guide Ben was very informative and nice (Juneau is not very large so it was a quick tour).
Captain T got us up close and personal and Gabby was a great first mate
Saw Orca, 1 in 40 chance, Mendenhall Glacier Service Center very informative, lots of hiking and close ups, City Tour lots of history. Thank's
Our family took this tour on the morning of 6/8/14. This tour was well worth it. We saw multiple humpback whales, stellar sea lions and other smaller wildlife. The captain was determined that we see as many whales as possible. Jessie, the marine mammal specialist was informative and did a great job answering questions. The boat had a comfortable, heated indoor section as well as an upper deck open to the elements so customers could choose their seating and comfort level. Make sure to bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens for close-ups of the amazing whales! We got some great photos to remember our vacation!
Great trip. Saw a lot of Humpback Whales close by. Although is rained the whole trip, it was very rewarding.
The Mendenhall Glacier was very beautiful. It didn't take long to cover the park but was able to take some very nice photos. Some people said they had seen bears.
For the whale-watching cruise, It took a while before we spotted any whales, but when we did, they were putting on quite a show for us. There were a few in one location, later there were a few more in a different location. Very active and made for many great pics.
I missed the City Tour but I figure I lucked out when I saw all the whales that I did, so I won't complain. :)
