Lovely ride up the river and really cool hike through the jungle to a spectacular waterfall.
The kayak portion was very doable, even if you're not an experienced kayaker which we definitely aren't. One of the highlights was passing through a low tree tunnel en route to the hike. Water shoes are very highly recommended for getting in and out of the kayaks and wading through the river.
Our river guide, Sage, was born and raised on the island, and his knowledge of the plant life in the jungle was pretty astounding. Still can't believe he did the entire hike with his bare feet! The mile-long hike was very enjoyable, and Sage stopped to demonstrate how the ancient people used a lot of the flora in their everyday lives, which was fascinating. We stopped for lunch at the waterfall the vegetarian option, tofu sandwich, was great, as was the fresh pineapple and got a little time to swim in the watering hole there.
A great way to spend a day away from the resort and see the natural beauty of the island. Highly recommended!
This tour was awesome! The scenery on the river was beautiful and the waterfall very secluded and majestic. The tour guide was great and very insightful as well. The hike wasn't very hard but I would definitely suggest tennis shoes or hiking boot because there was lots of mud, rocks, and tree roots
Our second time doing this tour. Our guide was great, we were a group of six adults and we have him just for us. After the kayaking you do some hiking. This time if was a little muddy, it had been raining a lot the previous week, definitely you need hiking shoes or good grip foot ware. When you get to the falls for a refreshing dip you will need for protection, there is a lot of rocks in the bottom.
The picnic lunch by the water fall is breathtaking ........don't expect much: Turkey sandwich, cookies and pineapple. Water and fruit juice is included. We had a great time.........
This was my favorite excursion of all. The gentle 2 mile kayak followed by a little over a mile hike led to the beautiful falls. At one point all the other groups left and our small group had the falls all to ourselves for about 15 minutes.
Our tour was awesome. Our guide was very good with telling us about the area's flora and wildlife. I highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Mud and all this was a small group tour, four of us the other couple didn't show, their loss but waiting for them put a timmed crunch on us, that shouldn't be but guide Jessie was awesome. Pictures upload later.
This was by far the coolest thing I've done on the island! When they say... The trail is a bit muddy.. They mean it! First you get to experience the beauty of Kauai by kayak and then you get to forge a river, sludge through mud pits and then enjoy lunch by the beauty of the waterfall. l loved it!
Lucas was awesome!!!!! This was a lot of fun even though we were walking through mud up to our knees practically. They were honey from the get go. Everyone was really nice. Will do this one again when we go back and ask for Lucas!!!!
Kelly was Fab!! Loooooved the mud :) It's the perfect amount of on the water and hiking time! Great time for experienced and novice outdoors people!! Thanks Kayak Kauai!!
Great tour with our guide Kelly. He was very knowledgable about the island, history and plants. He went out of his way to make sure everyone was comfortable with the kayaking and hike.
We were a little worried because when we got there, we found out that we were the only 2 participants that were not part of a large wedding party. As it turned out, our worries were unfounded because we had a great time with both the kayaking experience and the hike. Thank you very much!

What a great trip. Not only was the Kayaking a bunch of fun but the hiking was amazing through the jungle and mud. Lot's of fun and exercise. Highly recommend.
One of the greatest experiences that I have ever had! The tour guide was amazing, he even took the time to point out different plants and animals along the way. The hike was my favorite part. The light peaking through the jungle was fantastic.
I highly recommend anyone visiting Kauai to take this tour. It’s a great way to enjoy nature, get a little exercise and meet some pretty amazing people.
The Wailua river kayak and hike adventure was great. Our tour guide Lars was so much fun and took good care of us. He was great. The kayaking was fun. Definitely wear water shoes to cross the creeks in several areas. The waterfall was beautiful and we had a nice picnic lunch there before heading bac
This tour was wonderful! Kelly was our guide and she was very informative and friendly. The river is beautiful and the equipment was great (I am now hooked on the rudder kayak that is powered by the foot pedals). The hike was fun, even with the mud. Note that this is a moderately strenuous hike, but we did some seniors out there on the trail! Great waterfall to have lunch at and what an excellent lunch. Yummy organic sandwiches. Great company - I would definitely do it again and recommend it to others!
A very fun way to spend half a day outside on and in the water. Our guide, Kelly, was great – very knowledgable and friendly. Its possible to find the secluded waterfall we hiked to on your own, but not recommended unless you are really good navigating faint jungle paths and the river. We ran into several lost couples and our guide helped them out. Food was also great. Definitely do this trip if you like kayaking.
Definitely recommend this tour for nature lovers who are seeking fun, calorie-burning activities. Be prepared to kayak for a little over an hour each way down Wailua River as your tour guide gives you the rundown of the history of the river, as well as the surrounding native (or non-native) species of birds and plants. After we pulled our kayaks up to our destination, we sludged through 1.5 miles of muddy jungle landscape to get to a secluded waterfall, where our tour guide provided us with lunch: a sandwich, cookie, drinks, pineapple, and yam chips. We picnicked right by the waterfall and and were given plenty of time for picture opportunities and a chance to do a little swimming to cool down. Tip: Afternoon trips are best if you want to avoid the crowds and bring plenty of sunblock as you are completely exposed while you are paddling through the river.
Had a great time would recommend morning tour afternoon winds made it hard for my wife to paddle back with our young son! Tour Guide Lucas was great with our children who were 7 and 9. He made their trip with all the extra time he spent with them!
I would have given it a 5, but our guided tour ended up being well not so guided. All in good reason though, someone got hurt and he had to stay behind. We just felt a little lost but found our way. The trail was EXTREMELY muddy! Overall it was fun and beautiful! The waterfall at the end was worth it:)
We really enjoyed the trip. The kayak portion down the river was peaceful. The hike to waterfall was a bit muddy, but that added to the adventure. Plus, we saw the best waterfall we saw all trip. Worth doing.
The River Kayak and Hike adventure was great! The guide was good with his instructions and information about the area. The scenery was beautiful, of course. Colorful ocean hibiscus flowers lined our pathway in the water and on the bushes that over hung the river, creating a special welcome for us. The only thing I did not like was where we ate our lunch. True, it was next to a breathtaking waterfall and pond, but it was very steep and rocky and there were no good places to sit and eat comfortably. I would have preferred eating on a flatter ground above the pond area after visiting that area.
I would NOT recommend this trip! It was "sold" as an "easy walk" to the falls.... NOT!!! The "guide" was practically non-existent.... Our Kayak was last, and if it wasn't for a nice father/daughter combo, we would have not have known where to go. Our guide was way up front, not concerned with those behind. The same thing on the "hike".... there were times when the "group" was way upfront and out of sight. The terrain was muddy, slippery, and dangerous. We were supposed to have walking sticks, which would have helped, but we didn't. When we finally reached the waterfall, we were there less than 30 minutes. We were told to go ahead and swim for 10 minutes while the guide got lunch ready. Even before some people were finished eating, he had his backpack already on his back! We weren't able to go back into the water, but had to keep going! This is a 1 out of 10!!!!! Very disappointing!!!!
Our hike was a mudfest with mud up to our knees. We slipped several times in the muck and I twisted my knee and one of my toenails was tore halfway off. We were not warned about the severity of the mud. I probably would not have hiked had I realized how muddy it really was.
