Tours, sightseeing tours, activities & things to do | Viator.comBeyond the hordes of tourists lies a city that goes unnoticed by most who visit. Krakow is an old city, even by European standards and one if its greatest assets is the fact it has never been razed throughout its long and tumultuous history. Join one of the young and energetic guides and spend the day seeing all the hidden treasures of this city.
Your guide will begin by picking you up at your hotel or hostel in a genuine Trabant automobile and taking you for a tour of the Nowa Huta district - Krakow's famous communist enclave. Originally a gift from Stalin, this working class quarter boasts some of the great communist architecture that is complimented by your guide's first hand accounts of what it was like to live under the Iron Curtain.
From there, visit the historic burial mounds. These giant mounds (some of which date back to pagan times) were built to memorialize some of Poland's most famous leaders and provide great panoramas of the city. In addition, your guide is happy to give you a brief history lesson and point out some of the city's more unusual landmarks.
End this tour with a trip to Krakow's Jewish quarter. After being liquidated by the Nazis during the Second World War, this area is slowly being revitalized and is now home to the city's artist community. Lined with great pubs and cafes, you will definitely want to come back later to enjoy the true nightlife of Krakow!
