Kyoto Small-Group Bike Tour

Gion Festival

Start your small-group bike tour of Kyoto by cycling along the Kamo River, passing the many traditional restaurants that dot the waterfront. You’ll get great views of the downtown area along this route.

Then, cycle to Heian-Jingu Shrine, a spiritual center of Japan. Note its impressive bright red torii (a sacred gate) and replica buildings of the old Kyoto Palace.

Make your way along the quaint canals to the Nanzenji Temple, a classic example of Zen Buddhism, and admire its stunning smaller temples. Take some time to sit and contemplate the natural beauty before heading down the Path of Philosophy.

Flanked by hundreds of cherry trees, the Path of Philosophy was named by Nishida Kitaro, one of Japan's most famous philosophers, who was said to practice meditation while walking this route on his daily commute to Kyoto University.

End your tour by riding past the Shimogamo Shrine with its unique forest setting in the heart of Kyoto. Then return to Kyoto Station.

My boyfriend and I were the only ones who booked this tour on the day and that gave us the chance for an intimate one-on-one tour with our tour guide. Benjamin, our tour guide, took us on a wonderful bike journey through Kyoto. He explained the differences between temples and shrines, shared some roasted chestnuts with us so delicious! and by the end of it, we were biking around like the locals. Definitely an enjoyable tour!

Our host was fantastic - so enthusiastic and excited to take us around Kyoto, even though it was raining! Our children aged 6 and 10 managed the ride easily and it was such a great way to see the sights, learn a bit about the city and its traditions and see the cherry blossom. We only wished we had done it earlier in our stay as it's a great way to orientate yourself and know where you want to go back to. Thanks to Shalome not sure how you spell it! for her guidance and excitement!

Our bike tour was so great! It was an amazing way to see Kyoto. It turned out that we were the only 2 on the trip so it was like a private tour. Salome was very knowedgeable about Kyoto and was a great tour guide. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see Kyoto in a fun way!
