Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Kyoto and Nara Day Trip from Kyoto including Nijo Castle. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
The trip itself was great, you won't be able to see so much in such a short time if you go in your own
but you need to do your homework before this trip-read about where are you going, because it isn't always possible to hear the guide, and not everybody from our group understood her accent, unfortunately
But despite everything it was a great trip, we were so glad we went on it!
Can highly recommend this tour. Only way to quickly see so many sights and the guides were great.
Morning trip to Kyoto was great....afternoon trip to Nara...the lady guide spoke too much...the trip did not give us time to dhop
This is a long tour, one I elected to tke at the end of my trip.
I did not complete it, but you should be content with this tour.
I love this tour! Our guide Mickey made the tour really interesting with his great sense of humor! And all the sites are all really worth seeing!
Very interesting places, good air-conditioned bus, good meal and very knowledgable English-speaking guide. Happy that I combined it with Nara trip, it added some variety with a deer park.
It's really educational and what wow an eye opener! Our guides Mickey and another lady (sorry can't remember her name who took us on our afternoon tour to Nara on 16th Aug) were knowledgeable and could answer any questions the participants had thrown to them.. Great job guys!
My husband and I had a great time in this tour. The tour company assigned two tour guides to this tour, one guide for Kyoto and the other guide for Nara. The guide for Nara was an old Japanese man who was the most funny guide I have ever met in a tour. He showed us around Nara National Park to see deers bowing at us. He also shared with us some of his funny jokes. He told us that no Japanese residents have private pools in their backyards. One time he flew to Australia on a plane. From the plane, he saw lots of "fish ponds" in backyards in Australia and he couldn't understand why Australian like "fish ponds" that much. Later he realised that those "fish ponds" were swimming pools. The tour guide also told us that Japan has a large number of population. Japanese government exports electronic products and food to Australia and Canada, why the government does not export people to those countries since they have low population compared to Japan. Every guest on the bus really enjoyed the humor of the tour guide. We all had a great time in this tour.
For an all-day tour this is definitely something you should look into. Kyoto and Nara have a lot of places to see and this tour lets you see all the major sites.
The tour guides were happy to answer any questions and were very informative.
The only draw-back was that I wish we had spent more time in some places rather than others (we only spent about 20 minutes at the Golden Pavilion).
Overall I was very pleased. Would definitely recommend it.

We really enjoyed the tour and the punctuality was perfect. The lunch very good in a place with a beautiful view
If you have a full day, this is a great option. Very informative guides and most popular sights.
The best you can get in a day.... Very interesting, informative and friendly. The lunch was good too.
The trip was great. Everything was on time, well organized, informative, and we got to see a good variety of different things. There was even a wonderful free lunch thrown in that we weren't expecting.
We arrived at the peak of the cherry blossom season, which was beautiful. It was also the busiest season of the year. There were 3 busloads on our tour and there were other tour operators behind us with busloads. Our guide had the first bus, so we got there first, but he had to move fast so that the busloads behind us didn't over-run us. The photo opportunities were great, with the impressive temples and structures. The cherry blossoms put icing on the cake, but also brought the big crowd of tourists. The guide's English was fairly good. All of the guides we had in our tours in China, Korea and Japan had a good command of English words, but they had trouble pronouncing them and putting them into understandable sentences. One on one, there was no problem, but in a crowd of people, moving fast, you miss a lot. The Kyoto tour was great but the Nara tour was even better.
Kyoto and Nara are beautiful places, worth a visit. Nara , a peaceful park full of Deers and lovely gardens too. Lunch was also well served and delicious. We even had enough time to have a coffee and sweets. Well organised and excellent guide.
Our guide for our trip to Nara was fantastic. If you happen to get Mickey ( as he says, like Mickey Mouse ) you are in for the most informative and entertaining afternoon. He knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic about his country. Great tour.
We went on the tour in september. There are several stops in the tour. The golden pavillion, imperial palace, nijo castle, nara. You get just enough time at each spot. All interesting in different ways. The tour guide was very nice and always gave clear directions and good explanations on each attraction.
There is no way you could do so much in such a short period of time without doing a tour such as this. Highly recommend if you are short in time in beautiful kyoto.
Excellent tour, sites, and guides, very happy. Everything ran perfectly and we had a great time. The only thing worth noting when booking is that some temples are closed on the weekend which isn't mentioned in the advertisement.
Very well organised with clear pick-up information. The tour gave us a great introduction and overview of Kyoto in the comfort of a modern and very clean coach. Our guide was friendly and well informed and explained each aspect of the tour fully with a very clear English accent. On the coach she was informative and included a few amusing stories. Well worth the money.
Our guide, Chiko, was outstanding. She knew English well and was prepared with interesting facts and stories about the places we visited. The bus was comfortable and ontime. I am not crazy about the Handicraft Center's selection of crafts but it is an easy place for lunch. Don't miss Nara.
