On the way, explore the rural Malay kampongs, traditional timber houses built on stilts. These traditional dwellings were constructed by the indigenous ethnic Malaysian people and served as a home to extended family members.
Cycle past the long stretch of scenic paddy fields and learn about the rice-planting process from your guide. Passing quaint fishing villages, see the fishermen tie up their boats and bring in their catch. As you pedal down the country roads, you may spot hornbills, kingfishers and monitor lizards. Don't forget your camera as the views are spectacular, especially as you cycle through green pastures spreading as far as the eye can see. Along the way you will stop off for light snacks.
You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced guide who will provide extensive information on the history and culture of rural Langkawi. This tour is the perfect way to escape the crowds of this popular beach island.
This was such a lovely ride in the countryside and the exercise was welcoming - not demanding but just a pleasant easy ride. It was so peaceful and our guide, Carlton, was excellent. He fed us lunch at his home with a few local tasty morcels.
Carlton was wonderful, he welcomed us into his home and gave us a personal tour of his village, the rice factory and the main town on the west coast of the island. His mother made us a delicious lunch and we were sad to leave!
