It was OK, but could have been better

Our coach driver gave us the wrong times for the itinerary, resulting in us missing the lunch. This ruined the day for us.

I loved being picked up first, early in the morning. I didn't like the stop at the company, with pastry and juice, changing of buses, and waiting until 8:00 to start. I thought we were already set to go. The bus ride was comfortable. I didn't like the stop at the chocolate factory. To me it was only a pit stop. The Skywalk was absolutely breathtaking, and I conquered my fear. The lunch options were not explained well, like how to get to the lunch area for the cowboy cookout. The driver on the shuttle didn't tell us that he was going to the lunch area, so we got off at the first stop. After an exhausting walk, we had to go to the store to pick up our certificates. They could have been handed out on the bus. We got back to the hotel on time.

I booked my tour two months before the date. When we arrived at the sign-in location, we were told that they had too many people for the tour because people showed up on the wrong day. How that could be? I don't understand, because when we got on the bus they asked for your voucher ticket first. Then they offered anyone that wanted to change their day would not have to pay the balance. Ours had to be paid in full in advance! Then, when they finally put us on another bus an hour later, we couldn't sit with our spouses because they wouldn't even ask the single riders to sit together to accompany the couples. Who wants to go on a three-hour bus ride with a STRANGER? The women next to me on the bus told me she had just booked the day before and didn't even put a deposit down. This bus also had additional stops, which took away from our time at the Grand Canyon. So by the time we got to the Canyon, we had already missed about two hours. This did not leave us much time to fully explore the Grand Canyon. I feel cheated out of time. Also when I went back to the bus twenty five minutes early, the bus driver would not let us on saying it was "his time". But then we had to wait forty minutes for some people that were late coming back. The trip was a big disaster.

This was my fiftieth birthday trip to Las Vegas. I booked on July fourth. I was up at four a.m. for a 5:45 a.m. pick-up. Once at the tour facility, I was told that the trip was overbooked, looking for volunteers to go next day. The following day was my last day in Vegas. I hoped to get on this trip. Once outside boarding buses, told full. Six of us were standing there with no seats. In the end, it was a three hour drive and I was not able to be with my husband who I was taking the trip with! I was very disappointed with the fact that they didn't ask the people that booked the day before or week before to go on another day as we had our tour booked well in advance and also paid in full. Although the trip to the canyon was a pleasant one, the bus ride and the way it was handled was not acceptable.

We had to wait too long for the check-in, and the breakfast was not very appetizing. Moreover, the advertisement for the lunch at the Grand Canyon West was misleading. It was not buffet, and it was not authentic Indian barbecue. However, the bus driver was very engaging and knowledgeable, and the movie that he put on was pretty interesting. The bus driver was also nice enough to let people use the bus' restroom.

Unfortunately the day did not go as well as we expected, the coach journey was arduous to say the least, with that many coach changes we only really spent 2.5 hours at the rim. Our journey began at 6.15am and we never got back to the hotel until 8pm! A rather long day, if we did it again we would definitely fly. The coach driver needs to concentrate on his driving as well, instead of texting and speaking to other passengers. I was rather nervous sitting behind him when he was slightly swerving.

The Grand Canyon experience itself was great. Our bus driver was horrible. He took us a different hotel drop off than he said that he was going to which caused us to be late to an appointment that we had to pay for even though we didn't attend. We were an hour and a half late getting back to our hotel because the driver insisted on slowing down for every one of his stories. The bus that stayed an hour behind us to get some late passengers passed us in Vegas. That is how slow he was driving. After complaining they did send us a voucher for a free bus tour. But who wants another one after that experience especially to the Grand Canyon.

There was not much to do, but we were still pretty rushed, and the tour was not very organized - the guide just dropped us off, and we didn't know what we were supposed to do.

We had to wait for a long time to check in for the tour, and by the time we got through the line and to the cafe for our Continental breakfast - which was disappointing, just a pre-packed sweet bun and a container of apple juice - we didn't even have time for coffee. Once we got on the tour bus the driver was very nice. The first stop, at Hoover Dam, was very rushed and not enjoyable. The Grand Canyon, however, was lovely, as was the Skywalk, and the lunch was absolutely delicious. We were exhausted by the end of the tour, but were pleased we saw the Canyon. I just think the tour company needs to get a bit more organized.

The skywalk and Grand Canyon was nice but I would NOT recommend the tour company. The tour guide cut our sightseeing time from 4 hours to 3 hours leaving many of the travelers unable to have lunch. As a result, many of us went for a full 12 hours WITHOUT eating and the tour guide seemed unapologetic to say the least.

Please do not take this tour. There is a hotel pick up, but it is not from your hotel, it's from a hotel that is not necessarily the one your staying at. The tour operators are extremely rude and unorganised. They will tell you to go to a random hotel for your tour, but give you no indication as to where in that hotel you are supposed to go. When you call to confirm your tour they could not be less helpful, and they will leave if your 2 minutes late for the tour.

The organization was terrible, they treated us like cattle! Pick-up time was 600 instead of 700 like promised and 2 miles away from our hotel instead of our hotel, like promised. We were brought to a reunion center outside Las Vegas, where we had to wait for almost 1 hour before they organized the buses. When the tour finally started at 730, the driver was OK.

On the Skywalk, you are not allowed to take cameras on, and nowhere on your site or any other place on the internet did I read this. They take your picture and want to charge outrageous prices for you to buy the pictures THEY take.

Reviewed by: Janet D, United States, September 2007 Note from Viator: Unfortunately, for safety reasons the Skywalk does not include customers to take cameras onto the viewing platform.

Six hours to reach site, over largely un-made road. 25 minutes to visit Skywalk, charged another dollar to stow handbag. Unable to photograph Skywalk from inside or outside - fenced off. Pushed around by professional photographers while on Skywalk. Skywalk is not 4000ft above ground or whatever they claim. View is rubbish - way inferior to South Rim. Meal ok. No shelter other than shop, dust from construction everywhere, poor view of Grand Canyon.

We found that there was a lot of unnecessary waiting around at the start of the tour when we were transferred to the office to make a payment. Also we were given vouchers for different activities e.g wagon ride and lunch but did not have time to use all of them despite planning our time well. We then had to wait almost an hour for a group of people who had not planned their time well, but still were able to do all they wanted whilst we sat on the coach having missed out on some aspects of the trip which we had paid for. We felt that if a time had been given to depart then we should have departed at that time as our plans for that evening were affected by this.
