Sedona Day Trip from Las Vegas

Sedona Day Trip from Las Vegas

After pickup from your Las Vegas hotel, enjoy a morning snack of a muffin, granola bar, crackers and juice as you travel by comfortable, air-conditioned minivan 275 miles (443 km) to Sedona, Arizona. On the way, pass through the Mojave Desert and climb the Colorado Plateau through forests of towering Ponderosa pine trees.

Stop in the historic Route 66 town of Williams, Arizona, for a brief walk and photo op. As you close in on Sedona, follow spectacular Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Drive down 2,000 feet (610 meters) into the stunning canyon named for a year-round creek. Capture lovely photos of the canyon from Oak Creek Canyon Overlook, and take a creekside walk in the canyon's Slide Rock State Park amid arresting red rock formations.

Continue on to Sedona, where you'll have some time to enjoy a boxed, deli-style lunch. Wander through quaint Tlaquepaque, an arts and crafts community modeled after a traditional Mexican village with its stucco walls and cobblestoned streets. Browse the galleries and boutiques for unique local ceramics, bronze sculptures, blown-glass works, textiles and jewelry.

Finally, head up to the Chapel of the Holy Cross — an architecturally distinctive church set among rugged red rocks — and admire famous Sedona rock formations including Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte and Cathedral Rock. Board your minivan for your return journey, and end your 12.5-hour Arizona adventure with drop-off at your Las Vegas hotel.

5 star rating: Highly Recommended July 2015

We had to call 48 hours before the trip to verify everything. The lady I spoke to was wonderful. She answered all my questions and were very informative about all we needed to do and where they would pick us up. She thanked me several times for calling them to make sure all was set up. Sorry I don't remember her name but like I said she was wonderful. Gary was our driver. He greated us with a smile and he was knowledgeable about the areas we went through to our destination. He made all of us feel like family not just customers. Over all a wounderful trip that I do recommend. I know we were on a time schedule but I wish we had more photo opp time along the way because there were beautiful scenery in Sedona that I would loved to photograph. If you have time I suggest you get breakfast before you go. Snack bar and water were provided. The trip is all day and not too much time for stopping along the way. They provided us with a great bag lunch which was plenty of good food for us.This is a good trip, sit back relax and enjoy the view.

Beautiful tour, our driver guide Gary was excellent. We made plenty of stops to break up the day. I would definitely do it again. Taking a van made the whole trip. I will never take another bus tour again.

Very long day with a nearly 5 hour drive each way, but worth it. Detours of Nevada had an excellent guide, Jeff, who explained plenty of things along the way and spaced out the stops just right to not make either trip feel too long. Stopping at slide rock state park for lunch along the way was a nice addition. The scenery in Sedona is amazing and not to be missed. The deep green of the trees against the orange color of the rocks really stands out. If you have the time for a long day trip, this one is worth the time.

The trip was nice, the driver was very imformative. The tour is via a van so can become cramped and uncomfortable if tehre is a full load for the 3-4 hour ride to and from Sedona. Don't expect much time for shopping or exploring the town area of Sedona. But the views of the Red Rocks - AWESOME!

3 star rating: Worth doing July 2015

There isn't much there and they bring you to many shops.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better July 2015

I have very mixed feelings about my recent day trip to Sedona offered by Detours Nevada. The destination was spectacular, but overall, I felt that the itinerary was very weak. My evaluation of the trip was that it was a lot of travel for very little content.

The beginning of the trip was well executed. Four other travelers and I were picked up on time by our driver, Greg, in a very comfortable touring van. He was very friendly and accommodating throughout the tour. The travel time to our destination of about 4 1/2 hours was nicely broken up with a bathroom break and a short stop in Seligman to view Route 66.

Our first stop in the Sedona area was supposed to be a lunch stop and creekside walk at Slide Rock State Park. Unfortunately, we were not able to go there because the parking lot was full. We ended up eating lunch at a picnic stop down the road, but we never did go back to Slide Rock State Park. This major stop was simply dropped from our itinerary. In my opinion, every attempt should have been made to revisit this site. Our second stop was a photo opportunity at the Airport Road Overlook. This was not listed on the itinerary, but it turned out to be an excellent location to take photographs of the West Sedona Valley area. Our third stop at the the Chapel of the Holy Cross was definitely the highlight of our tour. We toured the chapel and had great views of Bell, Cathedral, and Courthouse Rocks. Unfortunately, our last stop at the artist's village of Tlaquepaque was a total waste of one hour of precious time. After this, we drove back through Oak Canyon and headed back to Las Vegas.

My overall assessment of this tour is that we invested a great amount of time and travel and ended up seeing very little of Sedona. This was more of a tease than a tour. A tighter and better organized itinerary with multiple photo stops, could easily have take a mediocre experience and made it a memorable 5-star tour.
