What You Can Expect
Morning or Afternoon City Tour
Head first to Kennedy Park (Parque Kennedy), a peaceful park located between Lima’s tall skyscrapers. Then venture downtown to Parque de la Reserva, where you’ll see the large fountain that lights up with a water show at night. Visit Plaza San Martin (San Martin Square), which is bordered by the Colon Theater and is home to many gardens and monuments celebrating Jose de San Martin, a leader in South America’s independence from Spain. Make your way to Plaza de Armas (Parade Ground), the city center’s main square. See the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima and the Archbishop’s Palace, and then walk through the Monastery of San Francisco (Convento de San Francisco) and admire its beautiful Spanish Baroque architecture. The last stop is Love Park (Parque del Amor), where you can look out on the Pacific Ocean and walk around the park’s many sculptures.
See Lima at night! This 3-hour evening sightseeing tour takes you to the sites listed above, plus includes a spectacular water show at Parque de la Reserva.
Evening Cemetery Tour
Experience the serene beauty of the Presbítero Maestro Cemetery by moonlight on this 4-hour tour. Delve into more than two centuries of history and art carved into the magnificent masoleums such as the Crypt of Heroes, the final resting place of the heroes from the War of the Pacific in the late nineteenth century. It is a fascinating glimpse into Lima's past not to be missed.
City Tour with Callao and Real Felipe Fortress
This 7-hour option takes you to the sites listed in the city tour above, as well as the port town of Callao, where you’ll visit Real Felipe Fortress, built to defend the Peruvian port during colonial times. You'll also visit the Naval Museum and the Abtao Submarine (subject to tidal conditions). This all-day tour includes a delicious lunch.
Our 15:15 tour was cancelled by the company but we thoroughly enjoyed the 19:00 tour. The laser light show at the fountains in the park was amazing. We had to leave the tour in the central park area to make it back to our ship. I would highly recommend this tour but due to the fact the company cancelled the 15:15 tour I would suggest Viator look into one of the other tour companies we saw pass us by all day long.
I enjoyed the Lima Open-Top Sightseeing Tour. The two guides were informative although the female guide talked very fast in English and with her Spanish accent it was difficult to understand her at times. The male guide was excellent. I think the inside of the bus should have had air conditioning because as the day got hotter, the inside of the bus became hotter also. I thought I purchased the Optional Callao Tour but apparently I did not. It was confusing as to what I originally purchased. Due to the traffic in Lima, it was a good thing I did not purchase the optional Callao tour because we just had enough time to sightsee and get back to the ship on time. We had to take a taxi from the ship to the shopping area. It cost us $30 to take a taxi and $25 to take a taxi back to the ship. It was also confusing where to meet the bus because the shopping area was very large. Fortunately a local policeman helped us.
