Great service! Hotel pick up and drop off. Great narration by guide. Lunch was fantastic with generous servings and ample supplies of local wine. One of our best tour experiences.
The places and ladscapes were excellent however the woman tour guide was not so appealing.
The trip was quite disorganized at the start. The hotel pickup was prompt and on-time but not at all friendly. It wasn't clear that we were being transported to a central point to meet up with our actual tour. Once we got to the central point, there was confusion and chaos for nearly 20 minutes and 2 bus changes to get everyone settled. The tour itself was quite good and the guide was personable and knowledgeable. The tour included lunch and it was the first time this particular place had been used. There was a wedding that afternoon so we were placed in a hallway near the bathrooms away from the main area although the wedding was not scheduled for a few hours. The food and service were fine and we received complimentary wine, but the atmosphere could have been better. We thoroughly enjoyed Evora and recommend the trip if the logistics can be worked out.
Our guide was professional and knowledgeable. The tour was very well paced.
We only had three people on the tour, my husband and I and a nice lady from Brazil, but it went on. I loved our guide.
Day started badly with a mix-up at the transfer point. Enjoyed this trip a lot as it was a small but very diverse group of people and the tour guide couldn't have tried harder to make it work.
The guide was nice but talked way too much and too long on every topic, not breaking up the Portuguese and English segments. The side trip to the Fonseca winery was an added bonus, but we had to wait around for another group to join us and then were rushed out at the end during the tasting/chance to buy wine. Lunch, however, was great!
Bus trip somewhat disorganized (had to take cab to meeting spot). Tour in 3 languages (had to wait for other 2 to be presented). Guide very knowledgable. Winery was so-so. Lunch at restaurant was excellent wilth great variety. All in all a worthwhile trip.
We lost people from the tour and that put us late. Our guide should have been more explicit. She should have given us a time to wander and meet her back at the entrance of the stops. Also, she was not very loud talking about the tours. She should have stated to us that she would explain in Portuguese to that group, then in Spanish to that group, and so on. We that were English could not get close enough to hear her.
My partner and I went on this tour with a lot of excitement. Our tour group was a mix of Portuguese and English speaking travelers. The English speaking group received significantly less explanation of the sites, especially at the winery (at one point, the guide gave nearly 20 minutes of storage and processing explanation to the Portuguese travelers and less than one minute in English). When I mentioned to the guide that we were interested in more information, they were snarky with me and said that there would be more to come. There never was more details given. On the ride home, the English speaking group all shared our frustration, but there seemed to be little concern from the guide.
With exception of the winery, most of the sites seemed surprise at a group of 23 people showing up at once. Our guide had to discuss, sometimes argue, with the ticketing agents to let us all in at once. It often meant all of us would stand around in crowded doorways to wait for entry to be allowed. The tour seemed very poorly planned and I am not sure they even notified the sites of our tour.
Finally, I mentioned in the booking that I am vegetarian and that if it could not be accommodated for the during the meal, to let us know so I could plan ahead. We were never contacted and the meal had meat in every dish, with the exception of a green salad. When I was trying to leave the restaurant to go find a snack, the tour guide physically grabbed me and tried to make me stay. I explained that there wasn't anything that I could eat, but she kept telling me to eat a salad. Even one of the Portuguese travelers tried to step in and stop me from leaving (I was going across the way to a convenience store) and told me to eat the potatoes with pork (he was trying to help by telling me to eat around the pork). It was embarrassing to be called out in front of the group and frustrating that the guide tried to prevent me from getting food that I could eat.
I would not recommend this tour.
This is a typical 'big bus' tour. Inexperienced guide, uninterested in the events of the day. The bus A/C broke. Temp rose to 36 C inside the bus for hours. She did nothing nor apologized. Wine part is very weak. If you really know wine, this is a one stop, cheap slip and your gone. Skip this for a smaller tour or don't even go.
They assigned us on a group were the majority of the people spoke Portugese, so every time we had to wait for a VERY LONG explanation in Portugese, followed by a SHORTENED version in English. The morning part was interesting, the Roman Ruins are a VERY SMALL area in the town, not worth traveling so far to see. The afternoon part of the trip was a total waste, they took us to a winery were a "local tour guide" gave a great tour of the property in Portugese, followed by a very sad translation provided by our tour guide in very deficient English. There are other things to do, do not waste a day of your vacation, very expensive trip, total waste of money and time. DO NOT RECOMEND
The tour was very badly organized. We struggled to get reach of the tour agent and there was NO hotel pick up. The attractions in Evora weren't good enough for a day tour with a lot of hours on the bus.
