Lisbon in One Day Small-Group Tour

Lisbon in One Day Small-Group Tour

Meet your guide at your Lisbon hotel and set off for your small-group guided full day tour of Portugal’s hilly capital. Board an air-conditioned minivan and head to Lisbon’s riverside district Belém and see two UNESCO World Heritage-listed monuments. First, visit the 16th-century Jeronimos Monastery and listen as your guide explains how the ornate arches and abundance of pinnacles is a prime example of Portuguese Manueline-style architecture. Nearby, climb to the top of Belém Tower where soldiers once gazed over the Tagus River searching for incoming invaders.

Continue to the Monument to the Discoveries which honors Portugal’s Age of Discoveries and its navigators who left to explore trade opportunities with India and the Orient. From here, enter a nearby cafe and taste a renown Portuguese egg tart pastry, pastel de nata (included).

Next, stretch your legs with a compelling walking tour through the downtown Baixa district. Explore Rossio Square and its wavy cobblestone tiles. Then, observe to the northwest the impressive Neo-Manueline façade of Rossio train station. Learn how Lisbon’s devastating earthquake of 1755 led to massive projects to rebuild nearly 85 percent of the leveled capital, from your expert guide.

Move along to Bairro Alto, Lisbon’s hip nightlife district. Then, stroll alongside colorful buildings and tram lines towards the Chiado neighborhood full of boutiques, bookstores, theaters, and charming cafés.

Take a break and enjoy time to explore more on your own. Perhaps sip a coffee or taste some local delights at a nearby café (own expense).

Reconvene with your guide and head to Lisbon's oldest district Alfama. Learn about the influence of the Moors in this 8th century neighborhood and then meander around narrow streets up to Graça viewpoint. Relish one of the best bird’s eye views of Lisbon as you capture postcard worthy photos.

For you final destination, venture to modern Lisbon and Parque das Nações. Hear how this portion of Lisbon went under tremendous renovations to host the 1998 Universal Expo. Branch off for some free time to visit the Lisbon Oceanarium (own expense), one of Europe’s largest indoor aquariums, or checkout interesting shops. Then, head back to your hotel where your tour ends.

This was 5 star all the way our guide Andrea had an amazing wealth of knowledge and really knew her history. She delivered everything in her that held your full attention. The trip was a full day but covered everything and more than we expected. A trip not to miss out on as we would have never covered, seen or taken in the information if we had tried to dos ourselves. Well done Andrea can we take you around the world with us. Linda and Fitzroy from London

We loved this tour especially our tour guide, Gustavo. He was funny, and informative and covered a lot of ground in a short period of time. He was very hospitable and really took care of all of us in our small group tour. We especially appreciated the egg custard deserts that he bought. Afterwards, we felt we really had a better understanding of the city and history of Portugal. Take this tour, and ask for Gustav!

Highly recommend this tour. Our guide Andrea was wonderful, extremely knowledgeable on the country's history and a very pleasant person to spend the day with. In a single day you hit most of the main attractions, Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, St. George castle, etc. Plus you eat at a wonderful non-touristy restaurant for lunch.
