What You Can Expect
At the top of the highest hill of Lisbon, you will visit the Castle of Saint George, from where you’ll enjoy an astonishing view of the city. You’ll also visit the old Moorish quarter of Alfama, where time has made few changes and where modern life marches on in the narrow cobbled streets and old, quaint houses.
Lisbon is nowadays just the capital of Portugal, but it is one of the world’s oldest cities and was once the center of a huge empire that comprised half the planet! Many of the adventurous Portuguese explorers throughout history departed from the next area you will visit -- the district of Belem. Belem’s most famous features are the 16th-century Tower of Belem and the Jerónimos Monastery. You’ll also see Monument to the Discoveries, erected in 1960 to honor the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator.
Excellent guide and driver. As we had seen some of the most popular sights on a sightseeing tram earlier in the day, we went other areas and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Highly recommended.
We were a group of 6 and were very lucky to have Valter Portugal (hope I spell it right) as our guide and driver. He spoke fluent and clear English with charming smile. He brought us to famous spots, explained everything with fun facts, and took us to try the phenomenal custard tarts! Last but not least, he recommended a classic Portuguese restaurant near our hotel, which was so good that we went there the second time before we went on board our cruise ship. In short, Valter was very professional, knowledgable and charming.
Carla our guide and Ricardo are driver were fabulous. We got an excellent overview of Lisbon and my husband is handicapped and they were very helpful with him.
