Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from Lisbon

Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from Lisbon

Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena) and the Atlantic Ocean from Queen's Throne.

Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairytale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic, and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside. Observe extravagant bedrooms which used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.

Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval Royal Palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Want to try a local delight? Taste aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.

Meet back with your guide and travel to Sintra Natural Park. Along the way, pass by Seteais Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate. Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs of Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca), Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a much needed walk.

In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check-out classic white terracotta roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.

Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

Despite a rainy and cold start off in the morning, the tour was wonderful and our lovely tour guide Catarina made it so much fun. She was very informative with lots of funny stories and plenty of advice on what to do and what culinary delights to sample. Since it was a fairly small group, the tour was more interactive. We were given plenty of free time to explore. We visited Pena Palace in Sintra, a few other sights from the car and the wonderful Quita da Regaliera. In the afternoon we continued our journey to Cabo da Roca and all the way to Cascais, where we had some free time to walk around and have something to eat. I highly recommend this tour, even in the winter it is well worth it. After all, it's Lisbon, and the sun comes out even on a rainy day :

FANTASTIC tour with a friendly, knowledgable guide. The group was small: seven people in a minivan. That means personal attention, time to ask questions and get them answered and, even better, no carsickness on the way up the mountain! The towns we visited were simply beautiful. I'd recommend this tour to ANYONE visiting Lisbon but wanting to see a bit outside the city as well.

Excellent tour with Joana, who was both charming and knowledgeable. She went out of the way to make the trip comfortable for my mum who is unable to walk for too long.

This was a great tour, and I am really glad I chose the one I did. We got to see Sintra's Pena Palace and some of the giant park that surrounds it, we got to see some of Sintra, Cascas, Cabo da Roca, and some more photo-opp stops along the way. Our guide, Joao, was very nice and knew a lot and was great at telling us information in an interesting way.
