Day 3: London – Stonehenge – Bath (B)
After an early breakfast your guide will collect you from your hotel by coach and then drive west into the Wiltshire countryside. After a journey of roughly an hour and forty-five minutes, arrive at Salisbury Plain where the fascinating UNESCO-listed Stonehenge is located.

Your guide will give you the entrance ticket and you’ll enjoy most of your morning at leisure here. Walk around the intriguing monolithic stones, pondering the mysteries that surround them. How did they get there? Was the circle built as a Pagan shrine or a dynasty’s burial site? An audio guide is available for you to purchase should you wish to hear about Stonehenge’s history while ambling around.

The historic spa town of Bath is a short drive from Stonehenge and the next stop on your tour, where you’ll have time to explore independently and enjoy lunch (own expense). Walk around at leisure, admiring the city center’s Georgian architecture — built from sandy-colored local stone — and perhaps take a stroll across Pulteney Bridge. Alternatively you can visit the Roman Baths or Jane Austen Centre, dedicated to the popular English novelist. All attractions are payable at your own expense. After seeing Bath’s highlights independently, return to London by coach and spend your evening at leisure.

Day 4: London – Oxford – Bampton (Downton Abbey locations) – London (B, L)
After breakfast at your hotel, depart by coach for the city of Oxford, approximately a 1.5-hour drive away. As you travel, your guide will keep you entertained with stories about this must-visit city, home to the world-famous Oxford University.

The colleges that make up Oxford University represent the city’s architectural highlights, and you’ll explore these during a comprehensive walking tour. Wander through ornate chapels, lavish libraries and spacious halls. Before leaving the city, you’ll have free time to discover its endearing charms independently. Perhaps visit one of its famous ‘Old English’ inns for lunch (own expense) or maybe explore Oxford’s wealth of interesting streets and independent shops.

In the early afternoon, hop back on board your luxury coach and head to the pretty village of Bampton in Oxfordshire, the setting for the exterior village scenes in Downton Abbey. See Matthew Crawley's mother's house as well as the hospital from the second series. Learn about how the current villagers' homes are transformed into a post office and pub for the TV show, and explore Bampton Community Archive and other local exhibitions to learn about the village history.

After visiting Bampton, travel south to Highclere Castle in Hampshire. Famous as the filming location for Downton Abbey, the stately castle dates to the Victorian era and is set in the middle of 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of stunning parkland.

With your guide, tour the incredible castle and see rooms frequented by the likes of Lady Mary, Cousin Matthew, Lord Grantham and other characters in the popular period drama. Venture through the magnificent main hall, library and sitting rooms, and learn about the real-life family — the Carnarvons — who have owed the estate since the 17th century.

After your walking tour of Highclere Castle, enjoy some free time to explore the beautiful grounds or relax with a hot drink and cake in the castle's tea rooms (own expense), before returning to London by coach. Your evening is then spent at leisure.
