Loved this tour! Our tour guide, Paul, the self proclaimed Hobbit was great. Full of information and very amusing. The bus driver, Martin(?) was also great. Highclere Castle was beautiful and not crowded. Enjoyed Oxford and the village of Brampton. Beautiful weather even.
My husband and I enjoyed this tour very much. David was a high energy, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable tour guide, who did his very best to give us an enjoyable experience. Oxford was quite interesting, worthwhile and beautiful. On the way to Highclere Castle we stopped in the town of Bampton, where the new season of Downton Abbey was being filmed, and we were able to watch for a while. That was quite a bonus especially since we even saw Lord Grantham preparing for a scene. The final stop, which included the castle and the gardens, was a great finish to the day. Although a long day, returning to London about 7:00 p.m., it was well worth it.
Our tour guide, David, was AMAZING! I traveled for the first time to England with my mom and we both were very pleased with our tour of Bampton, Oxford, and Highclere Castle. Not only were the sights amazing to experience and photograph, but also David made the trip very memorable. He had a great sense of humor from the start to the end of the tour and was very knowledgeable of everything we saw. From our experiences on the tour, we are already planning our next trip to England and hope to have David as our tour guide again.
Fantastic. Great tour bus driver and great tour bus guide. Worth the money.
I had been so looking forward to this tour ever since I booked it, and it lived up to all expectations. I wasn't expecting Oxford to be such a charming city, so it was a very pleasant surprise. And as for Highclere, to see it in person makes you appreciate the show that much more. A large part of what made it so enjoyable was our tour guide Paul. He was very knowledgeable and provided information with a great sense of humor. If only every tour guide could be as entertaining as he was.
It was great in spite of a really consistent rain all day! Didn't really tour the grounds or sit under those beautiful trees but the castle interior was everything we imagined it to be and the in room hostesses were great too. We were able to peek in every bedroom and it's simply amazing at the freedom guests are given to walk in the dining room, etc. without ugly plastic runners or anything (especially so given the rainy day). Great tour; worth every penny!
Our tour guide James was wonderful. He was full of information about Oxford and the areas we went through. Stopped at Brampton Village, and had a wonderful time at Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey). I was able to go inside the castle and see both upstairs and ground floor rooms. The castle is beautiful inside. Had a very nice tea in the garden. Just a great tour all the way.
The tour was great and well worth the money. Paul was a superb tour guide and Martin did a great job getting us around safely. The morning at Victoria station was a little chaotic and it would help the participants if this was a little more organized. Also, there is no bathroom on the bus and few breaks with long drives in between, so just prepare for that! Highclere Castle was beautiful and so fun to see as a big fan of Downton Abbey. Oxford was a quaint and beautiful city with an incredible history. I highly recommend this tour!
Last year I tried to get tickets to see Highclere, but couldn't get them, so I thought the only way to secure them was through a tour. I was not disappointed. Our tour began with a wonderful tour of Oxford with a well-informed guide. Next we went to Bampton village, the site for many scenes in Downton Abbey. The real thrill was Highclere Castle itself. What a spectacular, magnificent place - inside and outside - to film the fantastic Downton Abbey series! This tour was worth every penny!
The whole day was fun. Our tour guide Paul made it more fun as he was engaging and obviously enjoyed his work. His knowledge of Oxford was extremely informative and when we went to Highclere it was obvious he was as big a fan as everyone else on the tour. We would definitely recommend this tour.
My aunt, cousin and I had a wonderful trip with Viatour on 8/20. Lovely day in Oxford with our most excellent and wonderful guide Mr. Metcalfe (Peter?). He was knowledgable, informative and a great sence of humor. We all loved our time at Highclere. I highly recommand this day trip. Mr. Metcalfe taught us how to remember royalty in terms of importance: "Doris Makes Eggs Very Badly." D - Duke, M - Marquis, E - Earl, V - Viscount and B - Baron. Great guide. My second day tour with Viatour. First was in Sept. 2013....pick up in Monaco for day trip to Cannes and Nice. Great day with excellent guide. Will continue to use and recommand Viatour again and again. Thank you for great days trips. G. Reeves. Atlanta, GA.
Paul our tour guide was fantastic. I thought we would be giben a brochure about Highclere Castle but we were not. How I would love to live in the castle.
This trip was outstanding. Our tour guide Paul and driver Martin made the trip so enjoyable even when we encountered shut downs on the expressway!
WOW...what an AMAZING experience!!! This was one of those once-in-a-lifetime events. The day started at Victoria Coach Station in central London, it was confusing based on our confirmation information where the tour was supposed to meet and we almost missed it. Viator should publish the Gate numbers along with the location. Once we got started, we had another amazing tour guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable, helpful and had an upbeat personality. The tour first stopped in Oxford which was a delightful town with friendly shop keepers and local residents. We then traveled to the Castle which was breathtaking, as a fan of the PBS series Downton Abbey, this tour was a MUST for our trip to London. Highly recommend this tour but be aware it's at least an 8 hour day but well worth it. Thank you.
Excellent! Just too bad we couldn't take pictures in the castle!
This tour did exactly what it said on the tin.An excellent tour guide ,who catered for the many Americans that were on the tour. The visit to Oxford was most informative .The real purpose of the trip was to see Bampton and HighClere Castle. This did not disappoint .The only minus was the behaviour of some of the American travellers , who argued over seating arrangements on the bus.It is hard to believe that these were middle aged and even OAPs . Apart from the latter, this was a brilliant tour and for fans of Downton Abbey is well worth going on.
We absolutely Loved this tour! Our guide, Lucy was fantastic! She was extremely knowledgable telling us interesting tidbits of facts from start to finish. I really cannot say enough good things about her. She was witty, funny and everything you would want in a tour guide and more! Our bus driver Greg was great also.
Wonderful tour, Malcolm and Paul both brilliant as driver and tour guide. Would totally recommend. Was raining all day, but all enjoyed.
We had a truly enjoyable day! The guide and driver were excellent. The walk around Oxford was very informative. Unfortunately we were late arriving at Bampton due to a long delay because of roadworks. The highlight of the tour was Highclere Castle. Have wanted to go there for many years because very interested in Egyptology and it was wonderful to visit the home of Lord Carnarvon and see some of the artefacts which he collected in Egypt.
The tour exceeded our expectations! Paul did an excellent job making sure we saw everything that had been outlined for us in spite of traffic difficulties. Loved the trip!!!
Tour guide David was wonderful, it was my second tour with him and he treated me and other prior tourists like family. We were fortunate, while in Bampton, to see filming of Downton Abbey. What a thrill! As long as we were quiet, we could take as many pictures as we wanted. I am looking forward to seeing that episode as it will bring many pleasant memories of my trip. Highclere Castle was magnificent. I liked how the Carnarvon family had their personal pictures about the house as well as signage denoting which bedrooms are used for Downton Abbey characters. At both locations, there were a very limited amount of tourists, so no queues, trouble seeing things, or big crowds of people to push through. I was concerned about Oxford since it was included on a tour the previous week, but David did not disappoint and led us to different areas of interest, so I did not feel like I was doing a repeat of the previous tour. So glad I booked this tour!
