Enjoyed the tour very much! Did it mostly b/c I'm a Downton Abbey fan, but loved the bonus of Oxford. Our guide, David, was terrific- while he had strong viewpoints and opinions and not all agreed with his perspectives 100% of the time, he was interesting, lively, funny, passionate and full of information. No one was bored on this tour! I dragged my 10-year old son on the tour with me and David was very inclusive and wanted him to be engaged as well. He jokingly (I think!) encouraged my son to come towards the front of the tour at Oxford, saying "Come here, you wretched beast!" My son thought that was great and we even included that line in our scrapbook under a photo I took with David and my son and the tour group- see attached. Loved the architecture and the history and getting out of London to see more of what England is all about. Downton Abbey was a thrill for any fan- only suggestion would be more "behind the scenes" tidbits or info for the fans- maybe even a Downton Abbey trivia game on the bus- that would have been great. David is not a Downton Abbey fan- totally fine- but maybe could have indulged the series fans a bit more. I give the tour 4.5 stars but since I can't do half starts above, we'll give it 5.
This was a wonderful tour. It appeared long on paper, but in reality the time went by too fast. Oxford was incredible! So much history. The Downton Abbey village tour made the show come to life. Of course, the Highclere Castle was the highlight of the day and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely spectacular! An amazing day all around. Paul, our guide, was great! Warm, funny, incredibly knowledgeable, and super helpful.
loved the tour to the small town they shot the extra DA scenes in and the tour guide...Frank I think.. was funny and very entertaining.. gave us a lot of info along the way...thoroughly enjoyed it!
Very knowledgeable guide, learned a lot about the history and geography of the Cotswolds region. We were given enough time to wander around at our leisure and top marks to the driver as well. Would definitely recommend.
loved the tour
everything I expected and more
tour guide was very informative
David was our tour guide and he made the trip very fun! Oxford was beautfiul and since we are huge Downtown Abbey fans, seeing Highclere Castle in person was surreal! A great trip and good amount of time in both Oxford and Highclere.
This tour completed our vacation stay in England and it was the capstone event. We were so excited to get to Highclare Castle that we were almost looking past the morning in Oxford. David, our tour guide, gave us a gold star tour of Christ Church College and almost made us forget about Downton Abbey. What a wonderful place of learning and tradition that is observed to this day. Downton Abbey was everything we thought it would be with the added benefit of being blessed with great weather and the chance to explore the beautiful Castle gardens. The bus service and all the touring activity was of the highest standard offering a wonderful experience and lifetime memory.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The guide had excellent knowledge and was able to entertain with his stories and information.
Our tour guide (David) was great and very informative. Visiting Oxford and Downton Abbey was the highlight of our trip.
Make sure to have David as your tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable and incredibly friendly.
our tour guide David was amazing, he is such a fun person and makes history interesting. it makes sense as his day job is teaching school boys but his stories make the trip that much more enjoyable. the tour itself is awesome the places you go on this tour make you want to stay longer but you never really feel pressed for time on this trip. we had a lovely almost 4hrs in Osford which left us enough time to eat at a local pub (the Eagle and Child) and do a little shopping before getting on the bus for Highclere Castle. when you get to the castle we had almost 2 hrs there which was more then enough time to read everything in the house and enjoy the inside as well as have a cup of tea (which i highly recommend) and walk around to take some seriously awesome pictures. there were hardly any people at the house and it felt like we were the only ones there it wsa an amazing trip!!! take this trip if you have the opportunity and fingers crossed you get David as your guide!
