What You Can Expect

England in One Day: Stonehenge, Bath, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon Day Trip from London

Visit Shakespeare's birthplace, with Champagne and scones served in his picturesque garden in summer

Depart your central London hotel or central meeting point by air-conditioned coach, and journey out into the leafy English countryside.

Make your first stop at UNESCO World Heritage-listed Stonehenge, one of the world’s best-known prehistoric monuments. Rising up from Salisbury Plain, this remarkable stone circle dates back some 4,500 years and is generally thought to have been a temple that marked the movements of the sun.

On arrival, head inside the site complex with its visitor center, collect an audio-guide, and visit the massive stone circle to experience its size and symmetry close up. Ponder the mysteries that surround the edifice, and learn the theories as to how the stones were transported and then raised here.

Next, continue to the delightful, UNESCO-protected spa city of Bath, famous for its elegant Georgian 18th-century architecture and connections with 18th- and 19th-century novelist Jane Austen. Explore the city center with your guide to admire the honey-stoned mansions, terraces and bridges, and enjoy a little free time to stroll around the cobbled streets at leisure.

Back aboard your coach, travel deep into the Cotswolds, a region of rolling hills, green pastures and stone-built villages that’s considered perhaps the loveliest in England. Soak up the gorgeous views of the lush fields honeycombed with dry stone walls, and pass through bustling market towns crowned by impressive churches.

Arrive in the charm-laden town of Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of England’s greatest playwright, William Shakespeare, and home to the famous Royal Shakespeare Company. Take in the half-timbered houses and Avon River that winds through the town. Then, enjoy glass of Champagne and traditional English scones in the garden of Shakespeare's childhood home (or indoors in winter), and stretch your legs around Stratford’s quaint center.

When your visit to Stratford ends, return to your coach and drive back to London where your tour concludes.

Please note: on busy days, the order of the activities as shown above may be subject to change.

Fantastic, once before we got started. Tough and not very organized at Victoria Station, but once on the road, the tour guides and coach driver were super. It is a bit unrealistic to not have a bathroom on the coach. That should be approved.

Great tour, Frank our guide really knew his stuff and Martin our driver made the trip through the countryside very pleasant. Stonehenge was amazing! A must trip when visiting England.

Well worth the money. The guide was very attentive and informative. We were able to cover all the attractions in good time. The cotswolds though was not a stop, it was just a drive by.

Wonderful tour. I couldn't have asked for a better guide or driver. I could never have seen that much of England on my own. A truly wonderful experience. A big plus was the guides sense of humor. He had everyone laughing. I would highly recommend Viator! From booking to the end of my trip was so easy.

The tour was great! Our guide Jason was really nice and we enjoyed the tour despite the rain in the early part and we didn't really get to see Stonehenge and Bath properly, such a pity! Stratford-upon-Avon is a really pretty town.

This tour was full of British history and culture. The amount of time at each stop was was long enough to sightsee, shop and take photos. Our tour guide was very informative and helpful,
This tour is a way of seeing many famous places in one day.
It was well worth the money.

I will say two things first: this tour is fast pace and you will sit on a bus for most of the day. I did appreciate the hotel pick up service they had but once at the bus station it was a bit hectic. Once on the bus the tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and the ride around the country was nice. You don't stay in one place very long so enjoy what time you do have. If you only have one day for all these places then I would recommend this tour but if you have two days devoted to the country side I would split these two up. One could stay in Stratford all day!
