What You Can Expect

Hampton Court Bike Tour

Explore the area around Hampton Court Palace by bike!

Make your own way to Hampton Court Station on the outskirts of London (about 35 minutes by train from Waterloo Station), where your morning or evening tour begins. Meet your friendly guide and get fitted with a vintage bike and helmet before setting off on the leisurely 8-mile (13-km) ride though the pastoral wonderland surrounding Hampton Court Palace.

For the next three hours, enjoy picturesque views as your expert guide leads you through exquisite green spaces and the royal palace grounds, stopping first in verdant Bushy Park – Henry VIII’s former hunting ground. Soak up the peaceful pastoral atmosphere as you spot local wildlife, pass landmarks like President Eisenhower’s wartime base and hear entertaining stories of the Henry's escapades. Break at a local pub to recharge with a drink (own expense) before continuing on.

Next, ride to Long Water, a lovely man-made canal that cuts through Hampton Court Park. Modeled off that of Versailles Gardens, Long Water canal offers stunning vistas of Hampton Court Palace, the former residence of Henry VIII. Marvel at the formidable redbrick structure, then zip through the surrounding gardens and along the River Thames to the palace’s riverside entrance.

Along the way, enjoy lively commentary about the palace’s royal residents and the site’s colorful history. Your guided tour ends at the palace entrance. From there, you may choose to visit the inside of the palace (entrance fee not included) or head back to London.

Great trip, great guide. Even in a drizzling rain we had a blast. So much beauty to see in Bushy Park and so much history to hear about. Our guide did an excellent job highlighting all there was to see. The park is nice and flat and an easy ride.

This was an amazing experience. John our tour guide was outstanding as his bikes and van had been stolen just 3 days beforehand. He offered us his time at half price, as we could not ride, so we trained out to the beautiful Richmond and then took the boat out to Hampton Court. The whole group took John up on his offer, and we all had a fantastic time. Viator sub sequentially refunded half our money, but in hind sight we believe Johns alternative trip was worth the full fare. Hope you are back on board with your bikes and van John, you are an outstanding tour guide. Margie and Dunc, Australia.

This was a fun bike ride along the Thames. Hampton Court is beautiful with the gardens in bloom! We ate at the King's Arms and it was very good food and it was full of life on Father's Day.

This cycling trip was awesome. cycling along River thames and having an engaging guide, John, to explain the history of Richmond and English History is just simply perfect. The cycling itself was never tough, even for my 60+ dad, who did it in a breeze.

As for Hampton Court Palace, this was truly a palace with breathtaking architecture and history. Entering the palace simply brought me, my brother and dad back to the good old King Henry VIII days. The building, artefacts truly illustrates the thinking behind and lifestyle of the English Monarchy History.

Also the garden was very scenic and beautiful with many plant varieties and colors. Not to mention the maze, where we had a good time trying to find our way out.

Points to take note:
Currently, there are some restoration works inside the main and second courtyard, so there might be some inconvenience. Also for the maze, the last entry is 45 minutes before the whole palace closes, so that in the event you cannot get out, the staff can come rescue you!! Haa..

Wonderful place!!

This is a brilliant tour! I loved the old-fashioned bike which was very easy to ride along the banks of the Thames. It's a great way to see a different part of London that feels a million miles away from the busy centre. Our guide was fantastic and full of interesting facts and stories that kept us entertained with along the route. I would definitely recommend this to anyone to wants to experience a quieter side to London life.
