What You Can Expect

Hampton Court Bike Tour

Explore the area around Hampton Court Palace by bike!

Choose from a morning or afternoon tour, and then meet your guide at Hampton Court station in the outer-London borough of Richmond. Hampton Court is roughly 35 minutes by train from London Waterloo station, so be sure to leave plenty of time to get there! Pop on your helmet, hop on your bike and pedal behind your guide and group to see the best of the area.

While Hampton Court Palace is the area’s definite crowd-drawer, the grounds and genteel green spaces that surround the monument are sightsee-worthy in their own right, boasting incredible views of the palace and hideaways that only the locals know.

First stop is the royal Bushy Park to see sites linked to Eisenhower during WWII. The former president not only kept a wartime base in the park, he also used it to hunt royal game — deer that descended from those bred by King Henry VIII! Listen to fun facts and history as you explore, and then stop for a break and a thirst-quenching drink (own expense) in a nearby pub.

Feeling rested, cycle to the end of the Long Water, a canal within the grounds of Hampton Court Palace. The Long Water’s design is believed to have been influenced by Versailles Gardens, and the views — from the canal’s end, toward the palace — are impressive. Learn about Sir Christopher Wren who rebuilt Hampton Court Palace in the late 1700s and use the view stop to pose for some all-important palace photos.

From the Long Water, pedal alongside the banks of the River Thames to the palace’s riverside entrance and hear more fun facts and anecdotes about the site’s history. Then, all that’s left to do is bid your guide farewell. Your tour finishes near the main Hampton Court Palace entrance, leaving you ideally placed to visit inside at your own expense, or take a short stroll back to the station.

This was an amazing experience. John our tour guide was outstanding as his bikes and van had been stolen just 3 days beforehand. He offered us his time at half price, as we could not ride, so we trained out to the beautiful Richmond and then took the boat out to Hampton Court. The whole group took John up on his offer, and we all had a fantastic time. Viator sub sequentially refunded half our money, but in hind sight we believe Johns alternative trip was worth the full fare. Hope you are back on board with your bikes and van John, you are an outstanding tour guide. Margie and Dunc, Australia.
