The trip itself was wonderful. The train is quality all the way even in 2nd class. Time in Edinburgh was just enough to get a good feel of city, explore, and enjoy the castle. Would recommend this to anyone with limited amount of time in London who wants to also experience Scotland.
However, we weren't impressed with the tour operator. We arrived at Kings Cross Station early, as specified. The tour operator's contact was hard to find, was 5 minutes late and then just handed us our packets and left. None of us knew where to get the proper train; we asked for help from police in station. When tour was booked, the least we expected was to be pointed in proper direction. We easily could've bought our own tickets otherwise.
The train ride was pleasant. Edinburgh was great. The train home was a little dirty.

We felt a little rushed everywhere but the castle. Edinburgh is a fantastic city and well worth visiting. We wished we had planned to stay overnight to see everything.

The train trip to Edinburgh was absolutely fabulous! Beautiful scenery all the way up. Our main problem was with the tour guide who was to meet us at Kings Cross Station in London. He was at least 20 minutes late, and at 630 a.m. he has ALL the documents, that was a little scary. This was a full day trip with an early morning departure and expensive. We were really looking forward to the trip. The agent certainly put a damper on the start of the trip, but we decided to not let that spoil the rest of the trip. We had a wonderful time on the train, in Edinburgh, and the trip back to London. Hopefully, no one else will have this agent and go through what we did.

More information could have been provided to allow time to be used better in Edinburgh. Tour operator was late at the train station and rushed through instructions.

Although the hop on off bus tour in Edinburgh was great, the train ride and the reception we got from the tour guide at the Kings Cross station wasn't so great. The guide was late, he put us in the wrong car and wrong seat. Coming back, our seats were not together.
