What You Can Expect
Spend your morning in the delightful village of Lacock. Untouched by modern hands, this charming place has been used in many films, such as Cranford, Pride and Prejudice and the Harry Potter movies. Enjoy a guided tour of this lovely village and its unspoiled appearance with your small group before making a short journey along the back roads of the Cotswolds hills to the elegant city of Bath.
Once called Aquae Sulis because of its natural hot springs, the city of Bath dates back more than 2,000 years. Take a guided tour of this elegant city with its squares, crescents and terraces, and learn about the famous Roman Baths. In the 18th-century Georgian Era, the rich and wealthy arrived from London to 'see and be seen' here, and to take advantage of the baths’ hot waters to alleviate their stiff joints. Before making your way to the mysterious monument known as Stonehenge, there is time for you to enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants nearby (own expense).
Enjoy a lovely drive through England’s picturesque countryside featuring thatched cottages and charming villages. Arrive at Stonehenge amidst the ancient and historical landscape of Wessex. Here, your guide will enrich you with facts and theories behind these famous Stone Age structure erected in about 3,000 BC. After taking time to explore this impressive and mysterious site, enjoy a relaxing drive back to London.
We were looking for a small-group day trip to Stonehenge and Bath that would give us the most possible time in both places. After looking at many other tours, we chose this one as it had the fewest "stops" on the tour. I can't imagine adding another destination to this itinerary as there is simply not enough time for a proper visit.
This tour was exactly as advertised. Our group was only 11 people, which made it even more enjoyable. Our guide, Chicago Mike, was outstanding. Very knowledgeable about all the places we visited. And because we were in an "executive coach" and not a big tour bus, he was able to drive down small lanes and show us a few extra sights not originally on the tour, such as Avebury and Woodhenge, which were both very interesting.
Lacock was a great first stop. The town is absolutely charming. When we arrived, I remembered I'd visited the ruins of the old abbey that is located there when I was a studying abroad almost 30 years ago. The town, despite being a setting for Harry Potter films and PBS mini-series seems basically unchanged.
Our visit to Bath included a tour of the baths, and then we were able to roam around the town on our own for about 90 minutes or so. We loved the gorgeous Georgian architecture. We had time to grab a quick lunch and have a tasting of locally produced ciders at a pub tucked away on a side street.
Stonehenge was fantastic, and exceeded our expectations. Our guide had given us a lot of information along the way so we could truly appreciate what we were seeing. Despite the fact that many other tourists were visiting at the same time, we definitely didn't feel crowded or overwhelmed. In fact, we can't believe how many of our photos look like we were the only people there.
Great tour, great guide, and great experience. Highly recommend.
Sights worth seeing, well conducted by a good guide; excellent tour. My only complaint is that in Bath and again in Lacock, our guide told us to be back at our vehicle at a certain hour, but at that hour the guide and his vehicle were not at the designated meeting place, which resulted in the waste of several minutes between the time when we got back, and the time when the guide finally arrived with the vehicle. Not a long time wasted, but precious minutes nevertheless, in view of the very limited time available at each stop. Otherwise excellent tour.
